have a 120 gal mixed reef tank, lots inverts softcorals etc etc, ive had a pair of BC triggs for about a year now, they are real characters, very well behaved, dont cause any problems, are very very tame. They wait for me to come home and rush round the tank excitedly and let me hand feed them. Tonight they sarted a mad mating dance , blowing a dip in the sand rubbing each other loveingly nipping each other, the males colours were bright anyway now they are neon!
my Q is what do i do? is there anything i can do?
will i be able to raise the fry? do they lay there eggs on surfaces or just scatter eggs and sperm everywhere? any help or info greatly appreciated !
thanks in advance!

sounds exciting ! I never heard of anybody who breed triggers before. They are quite large and I thought they require very big space to spawn. Anyway maybe this could happen.

Do you have any photos you can post?

Good luck with it. Hope they breed.

Ajukes, congratulations, your doing something not many people have or can.

There is little to no information on breeding triggers aside from things like the nest construction you speak of.

As i understand it one sex builds the nest and once spawning has occured then one sex tends the nest untill hatch, they lay them in the depression as i understand it.

The eggs are ment to be very small, and hard to rear, but any pictures you can take and perhaps even sizes of the open sand space and nest (crate sizes are all great bits of info.

Thanks for the encouragment guys! they were dancing, nipping at rubbing till i went to bed, as soon at the metal halides went off tnite, and it was just the actinics its started all again!
i will keep an eye out and take piccies where i can, I am so excited just watching it makes you feel really special and lucky!
will keep you all informed as i said
chhers!

Ajukes,

you will see the egg mass in the nest soon. The female will take care and the male will be securing the area. Be aware of an increased agression level. I am not sure after how many days the larvea will be hatching and how long the pleagic phase is, but without planton culturing experience the fry will be coral and fish food.
