Blue Fish Ideas

I've got a new reef I'm just starting up (just finished cycling and adding a small CUC).

I'm probably going to try getting a few basic corals started before I introduce fish, but I'm also thinking ahead to what fish I want. I'd like to get a good variety of colors, and I'm struggling with the best blue-colored fish to add.

My tank is a 54 gallon corner, so I'm limited to smaller fish that don't need too much room to roam (i.e. no hippo tangs or large angels).

In generaly, I want something that will be peaceful, not eat my corals or inverts, not hide in the rockwork all day, and most of all, be a pretty blue color.

I've thought about a chromis (either blue/green or blue reef), coral beauty, or 6 line wrasse, but all have various problems (parasites, nipping corals, nipping other fish).

Any other good ideas for a blue reef fish?

skip the 6 line. Fish trouble. As far as a blue fish... I have a Neon Goby, lol. Its hard to get blue thats peaceful and small. If you leave it for last, I'd suggest a Sunrise dottyback. However, mine was a terror to newcomers in a 92g. Peaceful w those already in the tank. GL.

a yellow tail damsel is probably the least aggressive damsel. I have one with 13 other fish and it's never a problem. make one of the last fish to add. my scissor tail dart is a beautiful blue and grey. peaceful and can be added in groups. my coral beauty doesn't bother any of my corals.

you could try a Pygmy Angel, but with caution. No more than 1 angel per tank, and it may, or may not nip at corals.

+1 for a damsel given your tank size. They have a habbit of becomming aggressive with age but mine is close to 2 yrs old and is relatively precaful. Doesnt touch my coral.

Blue Fish Ideas

I Love my flameback angel. If your tank has enough room for swimming I highly recommend one. I keep it with SPS, some softies and LPS and it does well.

Yellow tail damsel; I swear, if they weren't a "damsel", people would 5x as much for them. For 4-5 bucks you get a fish that is brightly colored, doesn't hide, is reef safe, and doesn't bother other fish.

I would definitely consider the damsels.

The yellow tails are widely available. If you take some time and look for a Kupang Damsel, These are Blue bodys and bright yellow bellys. They are pretty mellow.

I also have Springeri Damsels (Just added 5 more this week) These are blue metal flake on blue. These damsels are extremely mellow fish. They are rumored to pick red bugs and other nastys from corals. I have about 10 of them now, and when the light hits them they have some great coloration.

I have the classic blue damsels - Which are definitely the most brilliant and bright blue fish you can get.

And for a dash of blue the Springeri Pseudochromis - Black body with blue stripes on the eyes. But the Blue is crazy colored.

Yellow-tail blue damsel is probably my most-kept fish. Not at all aggressive, stays small, and the contrast between the vibrant blue biddy and yellow tail is stunning. Only damsel I keep anymore.

+1 on the neon goby.
I really like the Randall's assessor basslets from ORA, we have three of them, and the ORA mimic Blenny is a great fish.
Starki Damsels found be another good choice, I do not have them because of concerns about aggression, but they are lovely.
