Blue Haddoni

i persoanlly hate those clowns, they are VERY destructive of their host. they actually went INSIDE the mouth of the nem and disappear in it. very destructive. be very careful.

I vowed to never keep those saddle back clown again. They killed one of my healthy green Haddoni. They are the only clowns I know off that go inside a Haddoni and rip the inner of the clowns and eat it.

Your nem is looking good.
Might want to listen to Pinkskunk and Minh. They know their stuff.

Yea since finding the nem yesterday they have been on it pretty much continually. Maybe it's just new to them so they are eager?!?! What are the sure fire ways to tell my nem is not doing well or not liking all the activity. If rough housing gets bad will it basically be keep one or the other or are there some kind of alternatives. I'll do my leg work from here. I just picked up the sbacks because I love the clown look and these had some pretty good size to them which to me was a plus.

How hard are carpets to keep? I had a LTA for a long time but never had any other kind

Stichodactyla gigantea, Stichodactyla haddoni, and Stichodactyla mertensii are the three types of carpet anemones.

The haddonis are usually pretty easy. But I'm having heck with this blue one.
I think it is because it was already treated with antibiotics while at LiveAquaria.

The giganteas are tough.... if you can get a healthy specimen I hear they are not too hard to keep but I have yet to keep one alive for more than 6-8 weeks. There are some members here who do quite well at it.

I have no experience with mertensii.

A short but interesting article:

Carpet Anemones

He attached last night and is sticky at times.

I cant get it to eat yet.
Until it does... All is up in the air.,
It stopped expelling zooxanthelle.
And the mouth has been tighter and very tight at times.
I think it might be coming around, but I'm not getting my hopes up yet.
I've been dipping it daily for a couple hours in the HT medicated with septra.
He will attach within 15 minutes in the HT. I've been clearing a spot for it to attach in my look down tank. It worked last night.

I havent had much success medicating full time.
They seem to do better in my regular system.
But they do need treatment.

Another reefer here is doing the same and having good luck with his gig.
Im also currently treating a gig the same way. And so far it is had done far better than the others I have tried to treat.

Hopefully it works out for the nems.

It is doing ok. It is no longer expelling zooanxthelle. It is planted on the aquarium floor.
It's not as sticky as it should be, but getting better.
It is not eating yet. I wish it would. I will be happy the day it gets that instinct to eat back.
My green one reacts very quickly to food.

I'm no longer treating it. I'm just going to leave it alone and allow it to recover in my DT.

Thanks for asking.
I'll throw up some pics today.

Update Finally

Update Finally

I was not having much luck treating the blue haddoni with daily antibiotic baths. It is just simply to big to constantly move. My 10 gallon HT was not big enough, so I moved to a 20 gallon.
I added 15-20 lbs of live rock, I divided the tank into 2 sections. In one section I added 15-20lbs of live rock. In the other I placed the blue haddoni, a tan gig, and a magnifica that I have been treating with daily baths. The baths didn't seem to be working so I moved the whole crew.

I change half the water daily and follow the water change with a 500 mg dose of Cipro and a dose of Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim 400/80mg.

I've been treating the nems for 4 days.

I plan to treat them for 7 days and then continue with daily water changes for another 7. Hopefully the haddoni will start to show more improvement soon.

So far they are responding pretty well.
The magnifica is finally getting sticky. It has not been sticky for at least 3 weeks.

The gig is getting "fuller" and expanding very well. It's tentacles are also beginning to elongate.
It hasn't deflated for several days.

The blue haddoni is also improving. It has stopped retracting for most of the day and its mouth is getting tighter daily. (Although it is still open at times)

Still keeping my fingers crossed, but I am very impressed with the magnifica and gig improvements so far.

A shot of the blue haddoni before moving to the HT.

I used my hand to give some idea of its size.
Much bigger than than 13 inches advertised.
