Blue Hippo Tang

I started a saltwater tank a few months ago. The main reason I started was to have a few clowns and a Blue Hippo Tang. Everytime I go to buy a Blue Hippo I am told they carry diseases. My 46 gal tank is doing great with a few zoa, a BRA, a hammer coral ,two clowns , a yellow tang, 10 hermit crabs, two turbo snails, sandsifter star, one shrimp. Should I forget the Blue Hippo? Any other suggestions?

Yes. But not for the disease reasons (as a qt can make the fish healthy) buy for tank size reasons. A Hippo tang need a lot bigger tank than a 46 gallon one. Think minimum is 150-180 gallon as it is an active swimmer.

Thanks. Looks like I need to get rid of the Yellow tang as well.

Yes, and get a quarantine tank. The parasites so common to tangs are also killers of other fish. Treated in a QT, they are no big deal. In your DT, they are a disaster. I'd also research fish before purchase, don't rely on your LFS. Catching and re-homing fish isn't easy.
