Blue Hippo Tang

Ive had my blue hippo for about a year. And I just observed a behavior I've never seen before. Maybe you have?

I dropped a piece of live rock with nori rubberbanded to it. It was a feeding frenzy to say the least as everyone seemed to want some action. Anyways, the blue hippo's characteristic black markings on its body turned white! As well as its raised dorsal fin as it seemed to be irratated by the crowded scene.

Have you noticed this color change before in your hippo. I thought I was well read on the fish I keep. I was suprised as this happened. :eek1:

Can anyone explain this color change by shedding more light on this? Thanx.

usually when hippo's get stressed or when your first turn the lights on you might notice the color a little lighter sometimes white. ( yellow tangs do this as well ) the feeding frenzy probably stress it out hence the raise dorsal fins.

Yup....I agree. Ive seen the yellow tang's colors during the time when the lights come on, change. I just was caught off guard a bit when this happened to my hippo.

Amazin' none the less.

feeding blue tang

My blue tang (added three weeks ago) eats some of the algae in the tank...whether that's good or not, I'm not sure. The other day it had some stringy algae hanging out of his mouth.

So I bought two different kinds of sea/algae food and put it on a clip...and it won't touch it. Any ideas?

Thanks!
Mike
