Blue Lights????

I have a 34 gal red sea max setup, and was wondering if anyone knows if they make lights that are not 50/50 10K/antics , I would really like my corals to pop more under some nice blue light, but cant seem to find anything other than the 50/50's T5 power compact 55watt bulbs

Does anyone know if they make any other bulbs other than the 50/50's that will fit my red sea max 34gal?


I was also wondering what the affects would, be good and bad (if any) to having more blue light in the tank?
Would this effect my corals, fish, crabs, coralline etc. or anything else in the tank?

what if I replace all the lights with antics? Would this mess anything up?

All actinic would be awfully blue. Are your bulbs straight or square pin?

you wouldn't get much growth from all actinics.

they are straight pin (they have four pins in a line) , what I would like to do is replace the front 50/50 with an actinic/actinic bulb,

so all together I would have 3bulbs that are actinic and one that is 10K (yet only two bulbs, in all since they are the double bulb style lights)

I really like the blue look and how it makes the corals stand out.
But then again I want my corals to grow well, would having more blue hurt my fish or corals?

I went to a local fish store today and the lady said that 10K doesn't really help growth, is this true?

No that isn't true. 10000k does help growth, from what I have read.

Sorry but it looks like there is a limited selection of bulbs for the Red Sea Max. You don't have many options.

Does anyone run a tank with more actinics for that blue'er look? how does it effect your coral growth?

Did I mention that I only have soft corals and lps


I think I have found some lights from marine depot that will fit, but I will have to wait till monday to call and see if they are the correct size

Actinic light in the 3500-6500k light spectrum is the wavelength that gets to lower depth and also proves more photosynthesis but that light alone does not supply all that is needed. Look up your question on google and you will find many studies and answers to this question. The best solution for a healthy tank is a combination of both especially if you have any fish.
