blue line angel primer

just got in a blue line angel for the fish only. he is the biggest in the tank so far. i see him picking at stuff but he isn't swallowing it. What can i do?
 
How many days have you had the fish. When I first got mine, it took about a day for her to start eating. At first she would only eat brine, but eventually got to where she preferred pellets and flake over frozen or fresh.

I would try clams or mussels cracked open to entice feeding. Many times angels cannot resist a fresh clam.

Just got him today from a new shipment. The wholesaler said they had them for a couple of months and it's eating. It's probally just stress out.
 
Here is what I have gone with the angels I currently keep, including a pair of Bluelines. I give them couple of days to settle in to a QT environment. It is imperative to QT and treat for the usual parasites. After 1-2 days of darkness I start a medicine regimen. I use either cupramine or Coppersafe to start. I use a combo of Marycyn II and Maracyn I to attack any gram negative/gram positive bacterial infections that may crop up when trying to get rid of parasites. Also both of those meds have an ingrediant that encourages fish to eat. The next day I add the Prazi-pro.

I do water changes every 3 days and replace the appropriate medicine that was removed during water changes-. 1-Copper for a month, 2- 2 treatments of Prazi lasting 14 days, 3-antibiotics as a precaution to battle any infections brought on by parasite loss, for no more than 5 days at a time.

I have a pair of Bandits in QT now. Received them three days ago. They are currrently in the treatment mentioned above and they are both eating frozen PE Mysis, chopped mussels, and brine.

Good luck with the Blueline, they are an amazing fish.

thanks for the advice! i should have quarantine it. i think im just going to treat the whole tank with copper and do weekly water changes. Will try out the clams to see if he is interested. Thanks guys. i will keep you updated. few pics

Sound like you and I have the same taste in fishes. I also have a pair of Bluelines, pair bandits, and had a pair of personifer (meridith) angels as well. I also have a venustus, flame and regal angel as part of my collection. Excelent taste!1 lol...

Mine took 7 weeks before it started eating and still only really eats mysis, but A LOT of it.

What wholesaler has had bluelines for months? I haven't seen any for quite some time. How big is it?

I am also one who proactively treats in QT. As far as food just continue trying everything and see what appeals to it.
 
My Blue Line ate right away but it looked like it had not eaten for weeks when I received it. Her belly was sunken in and her swim bladder was a noticeable bulge on the side of her body. She has fattened up a little in the month that I have had her. She has been treated with Prazi and Cupramine.

Keep trying. I hope yours starts eating really soon. Good luck.
 
saw him picking at the nori today, but did not take a bite out of them clam. He swims near the food and swims away. =(
 
My experience with BLs is that 1) you must treat for internal parasites and they seem to be highly susceptible to ich 2) quarantine so they have a chance to eat without having to compete as they are very shy in the beginning.

Last year I got one that's 8" and it took 7.5 weeks to start eating frozen but died 2 weeks later. Not sure what the cause was as all the other fish was fine.

I got a 4 3/4" & 7" back in March and had to treat both with Cupramine and Prazi. Both gets along and can swim next to each other without any chasing but wish I could say that about the 2 Meridithi.

Flame- I didn't know you had a pair. I guess it is becoming more common. BTW, they look very healthy. My pair tolerate each other, but I don't think they are a true pair. What's going on with your Meridithi pair? I have a Meridithi and he is a bit mischevious and likes to give chase to the smaller of the Bluelines, until it is broken up my Male Scribbled.
 
Thanks. I got a 3" Meridithi last May then another 3" last October. The first one is about the size of the Bandit in the picture which is about 5 1/4" and the smaller one is about 4-4 1/2". I guess the larger one is not quite an adult yet so it's still trying to establish it's dominance.

I've a 3" Bandit in another tank and can't wait to pair her up with the male by year end when she gets bigger. I have two Regals in QT and the bigger one still like to chase the smaller one. So far its been just a quick dash and no harm. I may look to getting another Scribbled to pair with the one I have after the tank upgrade toward year end at this point.
 
Wow looks great. I'm so jealous. The blue line only tank mates are a juvi imperator and blue face with 2 watchmans. He is the biggest one in there.
 
Hope it works out for you - I tried one earlier this year and it starved to death in a large quiet QT. Very disappointing, but it came with what I tihnk was an infected decompression puncture. 3 in that shipment, one is still alive.
Beautiful fish, and I truly hope you get yours to eat. Watching one starve was heartbreaking.
