Blue Linkia

it is understood that knowone really knows what they eat , apparently its an invisible film algae.. i have had one for about a month now.. it got a cut from who knows what and it healed.. i have heard from many that once they get a cut they slowly die.. well it healed completely.. i spot fed it some zooplankton and it consumed it greedily, this was the first time i have seen it eat anything, the entire time i have had it.. But the weirdest thing is rite after i fed it, i then watched it eat an asterina starfish..just sharing some of my observations, anyone else with a blue linkia have anything to share?? maybe anything you spot fed it??

Tried a red linkia once, saw it a handful of times and that was it. There's a blue linkia at Seneca Park that's been doing very well, but just recently we noticed some white spots on a few of it's arm tips. I'll be interested to hear what experiences other's have had. Can you share more about what you did to get yours to heal over? I've heard the same sorts of things about them getting damaged too.

I have had an orange one for just about a year now. It had a leg injury but recovered on its own. I have never seen it eat anything. There are some asterina in my tank but I think very few since I only see one once in a while.
SVXH6, what kind of zoo plankton? Did you just drop some nearby?

Those are some very interesting observations, SVXH6. I had a blue Linkia for 2-3 years before it melted away.

Are you guys keeping these in your reef tanks? If so have you had any issues with them bothering any corls, zoos, shrooms...etc

mine is in my reef.. i was feeding my sun coral, and the blue linkia was on the front glass so i spot fed it as well.. i use a small dropper type thing i forget what it is called.. i did nothing to help it heal.. that was the first time i saw it consume food..it does not bother any of my corals at all, have not had any problems with it knocking things over either..the zooplankton is called sweetwater zooplankton.. everything loves it fish, corals, anemones, and apparently my Blue Linkia.. but why it ate the asterina is still making me think.. it had to move a little to get to it to eat it.. i dont know if the zooplankton triggered a high feeding response and it reacted and ate anything remotely close..

the blue starfish. They usually "meltdown" after some amount of time due to starvation. The signs are the legs start to breakdown looking like somthings picking it apart, at least thats my understanding.

I have had several LFS workers tell me that it is not a wise purchase. They told me that they are hard to keep for more than a year or so.

Glad to see I have LFS that is not just out to try and sell me something....

I have yet to buy one. But I think they are really cool looking.

probably not a wise purchase, but a lot of it has to do with how they are shipped, acclimated from the beginning, and obtaining a healthy "looking" one..there are a few things to look for when buying one.. it wasnt just a go out and get one purchase.. i waited for good shipment of some that came in looking healthy from a very repuatable LFS, hes not just out to sell me something, he has steered me away from things before..

well, he seems to have found its way into the SEIO last night and it got ripped a little bit, ill see how it goes for a couple of days, but idk if it will make it through it.. its not major tears just little cuts, but its white in spots.. how long should i watch it before i take it out so it doesnt ruin the water??

well after almost 10 days i see none of the previous rips, cuts and tears that it had.. it seems to have healed, i have not inspected it closely but i cant visually see the white cuts(now all blue) it had a week ago..i have done nothing special to promote healing..

That's awesome that it came back. You don't hear a lot of stories like that, especially with linkia stars. I ordered one that looked healthy and asked the store to hold it for a week and it croaked. I was bummed because it was beautiful.
