Blue or Black Background?

I have to go with black, seems less artificial.

My 100 Acrylic is black, but all my past 100's were glass with the blue fade to black background, The one found at your LFS.

I had a black background, but removed it. My tank is about 1.5' from the wall, so I can look in back and see an entirely new view, or see a scary new problem before it grows out in front.

I do not think my fish like it very much - no private time - but I don't care. I need to know what's back there.

The coolest background I ever saw was done by a professional automotive painter. He used a combination of dark blue metallic and black metallic spray paint. The center and top were done in dark blue metallic with a very soft fade to black metallic on the outsides and bottom. I don't know if it was the metallic paint or the perfect fade, but it just looked amazing and made the tank look twice as deep as it actually was. Not to mention, the colors inside the tank really popped under MH lighting.

Why not try Violet or Coffee Tan?

The violet makes the colors pop out and coraline is violet.

Tan gives a feeling of depth.

Im going black background with black sand on the next tank.

Why not try a combo of both black and blue. Do a dark blue for a first coat and then paint black for a second coat. Should create a really dark blue color. I've seen that on tanks and it looks really cool.

i like black. it hides my cords and ph's well and also makes tank colors pop. i had blue also, but perfer the black

If anyone is thinking of painting there background -- suggest spending $7 or so and getting a reversible background ( blue/black ) just to make sure that you are happy with your choice. There is really no wrong answer, just want is going to make each person the happiest with their tank.

I only have black and personally I think that I should have one of each, just so I can decide which one I like best!:D
