My blue powder just died today and was actually laying upside down on sand bed abd would occasionally start to swim....he had black spots on him...and hippo has been hiding behind a powerhead with white specs and black spots. Just added an anemone the night before.
Nitrates, nitrites, and amonia were at 0 before I added BTA.
pH was 8.1-8.2 and water is at 1.025. don't know what went wrong .. please help. I want to save hippo if possible ...but mainly save my tank

I will have to.check.. I know the clowns are. But I use a veggie clip for seaweed for tangs.. so they might just be pulling it off instead of eating it.. is crypt bad

No I don't.. thinking about getting one though. It's a 75 I have about 45-50 lbs rock with a BTA that was just added..2 clowns and aome coral

Your tank is too small for either of those tangs, and IMO it is irresponsible to put tangs in your display without quarantining them first. Your only chance to save your other fish is to treat it with either copper of hyposalinity but neither of those can be done in your display tank.

I'd suggest you see if LFS will take the anemone back for store credit, too. Judging from your previous thread, at 2 mos old, your tank is nowhere near ready for an anemone. It's recommended to wait at least 6 mos. before adding a nem to a new tank. Good luck with your fish, too. It sucks to lose 'em.

Drew,

One thing I have learned in this hobby is you MUST take your time. If as another poster mentioned your tank is only 2 months old you are moving a little too fast. Now that your tank has a parasite in it you can either....

Let nature take its course and hope for the best. or
Set up a treatment tank. But in your case not having a good understanding of how treatment tanks work and having an established bio filter your best bet is to see if a store will take your fish. Then leave your main tank with nothing in it but corals and inverts for 8 to 10 weeks. During that time set yourself up a quarentine tank.

I have also found that a good addition when you are ready is to buy cleaner shrimp and a cleaner wrasse. They will help with ick to some degree! I waited at least 4 months before I added my first fish! It sucked looking at an empty tank with only live rock in it but I agree that you should slow down and be very patient!! Best of luck!!

I am part of a local marine club here in Ontario Canada and some of the people I met have been In the hobby for 30 years and they stress never rush and if you have no patients then this is not the hobby for you! I took there advice and I am really happy with the out come! 4 month might be a bit extreme but I would rather be patient then lose $1000 worth of fish and corals!!
