Ok, instead of asking questions all day long...let me try and be of some service.

Petland in Naperville at Ogden and Route 59 has a Blue Ring Octopus $70 I believe.

This thing was in a cylinder within a cylinder..lol. A note on the tank said before selling contact so and so....hehehe...I'm assuming you will probably have to sign something stating you know the dangers of this creature.

I don't know if this is a rare find or not....my first time seeing one in a store...given the price I'm sure some of you will laugh at me..but hey, you never know. :)

Watch your fingers.

are octopuses (yes i know i spelled that wrong) really that dangerous?

I thought Squid had large beaks and octi only have suction cup tenticals

You know i yell at people ALLL the time here for being to lazy and not googling....

Well heres the first sentace that came up.
"The Blue Ring Octopus, Hapalochlaena lunulata, is the most venomous octopus. "

OK so question answered.

1 bite will have you dead in 5 minutes. No known antidote. I don't know why they sell these... I've seen them at Ocean Design. A great way to get rid of a wife you don't want to pay alimony to. Just tell the cops you warned her to keep her hands out of your tank...

Uhhh I need to find me a suga mama and do this lol ... Yes I can just imagen the new tank I will get:D

why are store owners this stupid. i hate to sound like an @**hole but ya know im sure there is some sort of law or something about an animal that is that venomous. i can't go to petco and but a black mamba or a frigin death adder!!! why should i be able to go to a fish store and buy something that could kill me faster than something i can't buy legally as it is. im kinda drunk rifght now so if i misspelled anything just diseregard it. but im not drunk enougth not to write this now and im to lazy to hit the delete key. doognight.

I have been to several stores that sell venomous snakes, spiders, etc. I was very close to buying an Emerald Tree Viper at one point (very glad I didn't looking back at it). If they are not at risk of being endangered then I don't have a problem with them being sold ( to the right person of course ). Just my 2 cents.

Because I am a diving geek I knew what I was looking at while in the store...ive read about this things and there size is deceiving....

I as a little surprised to see one..especially there.

Here honey, here is a nice little octopus for you. Make sure to hand feed it everyday...he especially likes to be tickled.

Thanks for the post. I Googled and learned some cool stats, I wasn't very familiar with them before.

There is some great info here
Quick Facts

The blue rings are only visible when the Blue-ringed octopus is about to attack
It has a tiny, parrot like, beak that can bite through your wetsuit
The Blue-ringed octopus is only the size of a golf ball but still carries enough poison to kill 26 humans in minutes
The poison is not injected but comes from it's saliva
They are found in shallow coral and rock pools in Australia

What to do if you get bit!

The bite of the blue-ringed octopus may be painless but it is definitely deadly. Its venom contains some maculotoxin which is more violent than any animals found on land. This poison is 10,000 times more potent that cyanide. Upon being bitten, the victim’s nerve conduction is stopped and paralysis sets in after a few minutes. Paralysis is then followed by death. Some symptoms are as follows:

*Nausea
*Blindness
*Loss of all other senses

The problem is, there is no antedote. There are antidotes for snake bites & poisonous spider bites. You're dead, before you can call 911.

I'm just getting into this hobby, but atleast I'm familiar with some of the terminology.

I called up there before I went to make sure they had some tanks I could look at...I asked if they had any reef ready tanks on display and the kid goes....I'm not sure about that, but we have tanks with overflows.
