Blue Streak Cleaner Wrasse

I am planning on getting a cleaner wrasse for my 72 gallon tank and am going to keeping 2 clowns, saddle puffer, mandarin goby, and diamond goby right away. I will probably add some other fish as well later on. Anyways I know that they are harder to keep but I do want to try it. Is there anything I can do to increase its chances of survival?

Perhaps I have just been lucky, but I have had a few over the years and never had trouble getting them to eat frozen. See if it will eat at your LFS (a good idea for all fish).

Okay well I gave a that list of fish that I had listed above to my LFS and asked him to gather them for me over the next few weeks and I did say the african cleaner wrasse

Even African specimens, which tend to be easier to keep, can antagonize fish to the point they will be picked off. They do nothing to prevent, cure, or manage disease/illness/ich etc., like many people believe and unless they are in a large system they end up bothering the fish and the fish kill them. This is one fish I really wish was left in the ocean.

I agree they do nothing for disease. I disagree with the rest. Mine don't bother my fish... they act like regular wrasses, other than occasional cleaning (no more than my rock beauty, honestly :) ), once in a while. I can think of so many more species that should be left in the ocean, if we are talking about purchasing them for the wrong reasons. Copperband butterfly immediately comes to mind.

Maybe butterflies are more tolerant? my trigs, angels- even centropyge, go after them...def a fish I will never add again...

Interesting... so the issue was your fish reacting badly to the wrasse. I think that's a clarification that is important. My angels, several, have no issue.

They did not enjoy being pestered all of the time, sure, every now and then it was okay but some cleaners are relentless, they are programmed to perform a duty and there are times my fish didn't want their attention...def worse with trigs but the angels, even centropyge, react the same way...had a flame kill one once...I fair much better with cleaner shrimp, they are far less of a nuisance and are tolerated much more than the wrasse...

Not trying to pick on you, Ted :) Just really want to stratify what people think of these fish.

no prob, I can handle it :D...ime, the vast majority of people buy these as a disease preventative or cure and that is not going to happen, so imo, leave em alone... I have never met anybody who bought them because they are a "beautiful" wrasse...
