Blue tang ich in DT !

Hi all ! Well first of all if you need any info on my tank here is the link:

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2585764

General info is 203 gallon tank (143 DT and 60 SUMP)

Ammonia is 0
Nitrites is 0
Nitrates 5 ppm (corals in DT)
Phosphate are around 2 ppm (still working on it)

Well I got my first blue tang and as the legends are true, the thing is a ich magnet.

None of my "old" fish is displaying ich symptoms... so far the blue tang and the Naso I just bough. The naso seems a lot better now, the blue tang is not scratching as much as the first day but you can still see spots in the body and eyes.

Im treating with ich attack since its on the DT and today I started adding some PANAPLEX to the food to eliminate other parasites in case they are present.

The tang is eating a lot since day 1, loves pellets, not the nori, despite my best efforts to mix it with garlic. Dosent seem to be stressed, or showing any weird behaviour.

Here are some pics, will try to get some better later.

Thanks for all the help !

Your current fish had temporary immunity to Ich and when you added the hippo, it caused a outbreak. "Ich attack" as you called it won't do anything for your problem except waste your money. Hypo, CP, or copper are the only things that work. Being it's your DT your options are limited

I am starting to go the route of food with CP in it. I have not had any experience yet, but have them on hand and plan on feeding it when I add fish to my DT. I had a marine velvet outbreak that wiped out my tank due to a bad LFS. NLS ich shield has CP in it. CP treats against other parasites as well.

Watch out...The Tang police are going to hunt you down! Your system is too small for tangs. Especially Paracanthurus hepatus (Blue tang). They require lots of swimming room as they grow bigger. I'm going to make a SWAG (Scientific Wild A$$ Guess). You didn't quarantine the Blue Tang before you put him in the DT. Been there done that! NOTHING goes in my DT now without a dip or QT. It cost me about $2K and a case of Marine Velvet to get there. Because you have other fish, and LR and corals, as DMorty217 said, your options are limited.

yes I know my options are limited. Thats why Im asking.

Update, the fish have some dark spots in the skin, dont know if this are scars of the white spots falling down. Or something worse in the system (velvet).

The fish have cloudy eyes...

Taking it out would be to much stress for the fish to handle, I think it would be worse than good.

Thanks for the help

I have a 180 gallon DT and everyone tells me it is too small for tangs. I got the 180 because others said it is just the right size for several... At this point I am hoping two people can come to a consensus on what fish can go into what tank! The other day I was at a friends house with multiple large tanks. 180, 300 and others. He bought 3 vlamingi tangs all at the same time over a year ago. One is half the size of the other... It is a crap shoot.

Well the Naso tang has been in the hiding all day today, cant see it directly. He wasnt looking that bad to be honest, he was yesterday eating and swiming in a low current part of the tank, moving from one place to the other. I will see how it looks in the morning. But usually this is not a good sign :(

The blue tang is still active, less white spots but I can still see the dark ones. I dont know if there is a safe estimation to see if the fish could make it. He likes to graze near the cleaning shrimps, I suppose they help as relieve from the infection .

sadly the naso tang didnt make it, found it dead this morning.

The blue tang seems improving, always eating. Some scratching is still visible, not as much as before. Less white spots, one of the eyes is still cloudy.

Is there a safe estimate to see if the fish will make it?

I have a hospital tank with copper in it just in case... will not attempt to catch unless is extremely necessary.

Thanks for the help

Someone else told you what you should do. You need to get all the fish out and into QT and leave the main tank without fish for 76 day.

lets just say this again one more time juanmanuel, you are wasting your money and thought thinking garlic and food will get rid of the ich. At this point there is no denying your display has ich.
Your fish will 99% succumb to the ich if they are left untreated, just like your Naso. You can treat with hyposalinity, copper, or tank transfer method, which is the least harmful to the fish. Leaving your display free from fish for 90 days will eliminate the ich from your system and won't reinfect your future population. If you understand the life cycle of ich, you will understand why the white spots appear and disappear on the same fish.

73 days with no fish in your dt is what you need to kill all the eggs...they can stay in dormance for that long and once they hatch they need a fish to restart their cycle...if no fish they die...thats why going fallow is the only thing that will rid your tank of ich...im in the middle of it myself..i lost 10 fish to velvet...i managed to save 2 that are in a hospital tank...been one month and i just finished the copper treatment...another 5 weeks in the hospital before they go in the display again...good luck i know it sucks...
