Blue tang

I've always had a yellow tang in my 55gal with no issues. Could I house a small blue tang in a 55gal with a yellow tang ? I have done my research and found some call for the min tank to be 60 and then some same 100....so that's why I'm asking on here.

In general, Live Aquaria minimum tank sizes are decent to go by. They list 180 for Blue Tangs, which I feel is a good minimum. I have a 6' long 125 gallon tank and I don't feel it is large enough for one.

So the short answer is, no. I don't think a 55 is nearly large enough.

6ft tank is minimum for most tangs. So 125g or more is needed. I also wouldnt put a yellow tang in a 55. Did you ever see them in an 8ft tank? They roam all day back and forth.

Oh ok, we'll I was just wondering what everyone thought. They yellow tang I have now seems like it's doing well. Ithe was given to me by a friend because they were tanking down their tank.

You could house a blue tang in a 55 that was 2". Question is, what will you do when it gains another 1" within a year? Thats IF, the other tang doesnt kill it meantime. I've got a 120 4' x 2' x 2' and its barely big enough for my 5" Tomini and my 3.5" yellow belly blue. They dont fight whatsoever but that doesnt mean they have all the room they'll need. I'll have to get at least a 180 next year. 125 gal. longs are a dime a dozen, I'd at least get one of those to carry you through the next 2 years. Plan on another upgrade after that though. Many here almost demand you house a blue in an 8ft tank so you're gonna get a lot of grief over this. Two criticisms are fair though, the fish need room to swim and stake territory away from the other fish and you sure dont want the bad feeling that comes with coupling 2 fish in too small a tank only to lose out on your money when one or worse yet, both, get killed.
