Have a new Blue Throat Triggerfish 3 days old in new tank still is not eating anything hides all day and swims around at night. Been trying to feed him some mysis but just ignores it. Any thoughts or is it just still acclimating.

Display tank not seeing any aggression. The only really aggressive fish I have is a yellow damsel who ignores him the only other one is my Falco Spotted hawkish and they seem to be buddy's and hide together half the time kinda funny.

unfortunately that is a major bt characteristic...many are painfully shy to the point that their owners never see them...leave the lights off a few days and let her get comfy...did you qt?

It was from a buddy's tank that he had for a about 2 months saw no reason to QT.

qt is essential to a healthy dt...your bt has gone thru at least 3 systems in the last approx. 3 months, wide open to many headaches...
keep lights off and keep feeding him often, it is possible he is checking out the tank when the room is empty...good luck...
toss up some pics...

I figure since he looked healthy and was in a healthy system that there was no need for a QT. I can understand after getting from a LFS but from an established tank after couple months QT seemed little much. But I am still new to this hobby.

Welcome to the hobby. It's best practices to QT every fish that enters your system regardless of where it comes from. Better safe than sorry. If you have a comfortable and large enough QT, the fish will be fine in there for the duration of observation, treatment, and more observation...

Was the fish active in your friend's tank? If so, give the BT some time to get used to the surroundings. Some have reported that their BT's are very shy, and never come out. My BT pair are all over the place all of the time...

Also: Ask your friend what he fed the fish in his tank. It may help the fish to be fed something familiar...

BTW: They love clam on the half shell...

Just remembered another perk of using a QT...

You can often get picky or new fish to eat easier in QT due to the lack of competition for food like they will experience in the DT...

I've had my blue throat for going over just three years now. He went straight into quarantine when I got him, actually the first fish that I put through any sort of quarantine protocol.

28 days..., it took him 28 days to eat in front of me. I can remember keeping track and being absolutely baffled that this stupid fish wouldn't eat in front of me. I hid behind things, crawled on the floor and it still wouldn't eat in front of me.

They get a bad rap and a lot of people don't like them, but I really enjoy the coloration on mine and it is no longer shy.

Totally agree on the clam or potentially a shrimp, specifically the tail section.

Beautiful fish, give him some time.

Fresh... Well, kinda. I buy them live bulk from Costco, freeze them, then thaw them out. Good thing is that when you freeze them and thaw them out in tank water, they pop open, so you don't have to shuck them...

Ok, thanks! I have frozen mussels on the half shell handy, and Damm if he eats them. He has been in the tank for about a month, and the only thing I've seen him eat is a random poop. He is getting skinny, darn him.
