Blue zoas

BTW... I use a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W1.

If anybody has helpful hints on how to use this camera, PM me!

Thanks! :)

Bill those are sweet!

cowcio, those pics are not that good. however I do believe you. I use the coralife 20K bulb because it doesnt saturate my tank with a blue hue. What kind of 20K bulb are you running? The one thing to look for is the color of the sand and coraline.

This is what my tank looks with 150 watt 20K coralife bulb. When I see some of these pics by the online vendors even their coraline looks blue. I'm not trying to stir up anything, UF is a reputable sight but we all have to take these things into account before we spend $125 on ten blue polyps (which is insane).

Since we are showing off blue zoas.

Cowico,
That is a great camera. Set that baby to macro mode and start shooting.
Without messing with the cameras white balance, just get up to the tank and zoom in as far as you can without losing focus. 24" is usually the closest you can get to an object even in macro mode.

You have to hold the camera steady, so be patient. Snap pics about 5-7. Keeping the camera steady each time you snap. Even a little shake will cause it to be blurry.

Then upload and crop the pictures you want. That will also help bring out the detail of the pic.

Lets see em!

you can't jusge zoas by what they look like under actinics. I have some ugly zoas that look amazing under actinics. If you want to take better shots turn of the flow, put your camera in macro mode, usually a flower Icon. Take good clear shot with no zoom and then crop the pic.

I think that I need to move the zoas, they are in the back 3rd of my tank and on the bottom. I will be able to get a better pic if I move them more towards the front. I'm setting up a frag tank this week with 14k MH. probably get a shot of them under that... but that won't be for little while.

Here are the pinks under 20K MH

and the blue are 20K MH in the back right corner of this shot:

I know... still not the best pics.

Where can I load higher quality pics? This has a limit of 50kb...

Here's an old pic of the zoas I was talking about.

neonsky.jpg

Lighting is 2x250 14k Hamilton with 2x96 actinic. Not blasted with 20k, extra actinics, and extra saturation like some online pics.

I need to do new pics, but I gotta clean up the tank a bit first.

Get yourself a photobucket account, they're free.
You still have a limit on your uploads, but it's all about cropping.
In photoshop, crop the portion you want to show. Do not sharpen, change the color or anything besides crop. Adding those features will increase the file size. Plus, it's then a misrepresentation of the picture.;)

Vetter, I love those Green and blue zoas!

Mr.Ugly, are those Tubs? nice.:)

I think those are Mr. Ugly's neon sky morph, am I right? Those are Swwwweeettt! Cowcio, I've ordered a lot from UF. I've gotten some real gems from him and some dissapointing frags as well. I've not been fortunate enough to get those blues or pinks but they are very nice. One of the best morphs that I've ever gotten from him is the "sunset zoa". Unfortunately he isn't selling it anymore but one of the farmers is. It's now called "Jared's Rare Sunset Zoo 115".

So cowcio how do you like those blues you got from revhtree? ;)

Were they as blue as expected? This is a real question. Sometimes I wonder if they live up to expectation.

Rev...

Hey! The blues did live up to my expectations. They are a very deep blue, which will look very nice when they grow out. The blues being discussed here are just much more bright and I happen to like them for different reasons. Actually, what impressed me most about my deal with you were the Zombie Eyes. They were on a very large frag, much larger than what we agreed on and they were VERY beautiful.

Strangely enough, a couple of the blues I got from you didn't make it... but only about 3 polyps. That probably had to do with the USPS mess up, but it could have been a number of other things as well.

I was only trying to back up UF here... not to discredit anybody else :)

I look forward to hearing what other zoas you have to offer. There has only been one person that I can and will discredit, but I will not do it in public. I also know others that have had great success with the person that I am not too fond of.

Lets keep this a happy hobby. If idiots, like me, wish to pay 10 dollars a polyp, let us. However, when any of my "rare" zoas grow out, I intend to sell or trade them for a much lower price!

Forgot I had this pic of my blues on photobucket.

14k no actinics.

I don't tinker with the camera, so it's hard to get a good pic with the bright blue.

You don't see blues like that every day! Every frag of blue I have ever got went to another color pretty quickly.

Hehehe... that's why I had to have them when I saw them at my LFS. You could spot them in their tank from across the room. I'm not kidding, they are NEON :)

These are my blues under 10k lighting

As far as docs zoas go.That is the true color ive seen them in person.

Steve,
Get in line pal! :lmao:

No problem man, I think I owe Coralnuts or fickle a frag of them, I forget...

Nice blues Ugly, jjmcat.;)
