Bluephish's 90gal elephant rock

Right off the start elephant rock is just the name for my rock structure. Nothing new or exciting ha ha.

Never started a tank thread with my last tank, a 60 gal with a big arch. So i decided i needed something with a catchy title.

old 60 arch

The new tank was to be setup during a house move so i moved the 60 to the 90. I ran in to complications with the sellers and my landlord a week prior to the move and ended up having to take down the 60 and setup a 90 in one day. Impossible!! so the tank at like 430 am wedenesday last week was being setup in 33 gal totes in my new basement.

They entire contents of my old 60 spent a week down in the basement, while i set up the new tank. I lost a bit of coral, But saved all my fish and even my tiled starfish!

Now the new tank!

I love glass holes overflow. Thanks very much to jhonny c and A reef creation for first having my tank in stock and second drilling my tank for me in the clutch.

I painted the back and bottom of the display black. Inside the stand white, back and bottom of sump black, and plumbing black. looks pretty slick i think.

Looks similar to the old tank right? kinda like the old tank was hit by a big wave. I think it looks like a elephant now.

Some pvc is still exposed but this should be covered soon. It still needs a electrical box to hide wires, hang my lights, hook up a refugium, and a black 90elbow.

let me know what you all think.

Oh and corals are not in final permanent positions. Just have them sitting for right now. cap is unattached and will be moved for sure.

cant see the elephant, requires flash!
the 60gal scaping looks awesome, did u use PVC for the big arch?

Thank you all for looking & commenting.

- rock is drilled, and zip tied to a pvc skeleton. I had a few and this is when it started looking like a elephant.

-gary, i thought the slide show expressed the depth of the scape better, as if you are walking around the tank. The depth of the new scape is hard to capture on camera in one pic.

- the old 60 gal scape always seemed to make people say wow. I was having a really hard time coming up with a new scape to better my last. I really could not think of a design, and had no internet connection to get inspiration. I had to just start putting pieces together and this is what came out.

-The bar is my uncles, great to watch games and fights at.
I think he got sick of going out.lol

That is cool. I've been planning my next build and thinking this is something I can use. Thanks alot for posting .

Nice job!

I am thinking of getting some new fish for the 90. Any suggestions?

My current fish i moved over from my 60 gal

hippo tang about 5 inches
pair of O. clowns, female is full grown i think 3.5 inches.
six line with a little more growth left on him.
female mandarin

All 5 fish i have had for 2-3 yrs. Sounds like it was so over stocked to me, the open rock work of the 60 is what i think allowed me to keep that many fish in it, and happy.

I also keep corals of mainly lps /sps.

I run a octo-150 on this tank and my last. Always seemed to over skim the 60. It would skim a lot at once then nothing for a while. Thinking more fish will keep my skimmer from being so lazy.

I really want a pair of something, a small schooling group if it exists, or something larger to break up competition between my sixline and tang. They never get aggressive but you can tell they get annoyed by each other.

It is rigid.

I heated and bent each piece in the oven, set on 200 degree's for a few min or until rubbery. Even easier to use would be a heat blanket designed to bend pvc conduit.

I got the idea to bend pvc for my tank while doing some electrical work.
