Bobbit Worm ID

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. Was hoping someone could confirm this is some type of Bobbit Worm. I don't want to banish him forever, if he is not. If my suspicions are confirmed, I am going to try and re-home him at one of two oceanographic facilities near me. I'm not for killing things, I figure it's not its fault it ended up in my tank..lol

Not the greatest photos but his body is shiny. Thanks for the help!

definitely a eunicid worm, you did a good job to get it out of the tank before it had a chance to grow to true sea serpent size and wreak havoc. If the oceanographic facilities don't take it you could always set up a species tank for it and have a crazy conversation piece or even leave an open post here in the invert forum seeing if anyone wants it. I've seen a few people here and there offering to take them off of peoples hands.

Thanks for the help! I definitely want to try and find a home for him...I will do as you suggest if the facilities don't want him...

thats awesome!! If you cant get rid of him, i would be interested in taking him off your hands. I have been toying with the idea of having a 10g worm tank for shits and giggles.

Ok, great! I'll let you know. They have contacted me this morning, but have not committed to anything. From what I understand, they have a network of facilities that they deal with when it comes to stocking and wildlife. And, I can understand, with the Bobbit's predatory nature, and attack style, it's not an easy placement. If I don't hear back from them by tomorrow afternoon, I'll send you a PM, and if your still interested, I'll send him to you.

BTW, At this point he is pretty small, 2.5" to 3", but I think they grow pretty fast.

Thanks! Yes, they can get quite large and are insane predators which is why i am so interested. They dont pop up very often and it would be sweet to have a small tank just for it where i could drop in fish from time to time and watch the circle of life :)

It wouldn't let me send the PM..not enough posts it said...

Hi, He's all yours if you still want him... you can send me a PM with your address and email so I can send tracking info.

I need to gather the items to send him, so I should be able to send Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Or, whenever, you want after those days. Lmk.
Also, here is a better pic.

if you have a "pest" coral like waving hand anthelia, which grows like MAD, it may eat that. A friend of mine not that long ago had his 700 gallon spring a leak and as we were breaking it down we found in the live rock tub an 8 foot eunicid worm. You read that right, 8 foot. before we broke the tank down you could see the stumps on the mats of athelia where it had been gorging itself.

Their ability to remain hidden, and grow to that size is pretty amazing. Makes you think twice about working in the tank with no gloves..lol

ThroThra, I cannot reply to you via PM because of the less than 10 post rule. If I use the address you gave me, and I send it FEDEX (next day) you will get it, correct?

BTW, I love that area...We come out about every 2 years...just now planning a trip for next March or April.

I am looking for bobbit too and am more then happy to pay for shipping etc ! If this guy or any others are found please contact me !

Can't send or respond to PMs yet..lol. But, another person already asked for the Bobbit. He is quite interesting, and if I had a place for him, I would have kept him. If I see more, I will definitely contact you. Or, if they change their mind, I will let you know.

Thanks
