Bodianus Neopercularis

Any one have one or have any experience with one? I assume like all hogfish will get more aggressive with size but they stay relatively smallish and I only have one wrasse currently in the tank. (have read they can be particularly aggressive with some wrasse) Also know like wrasse, they are jumpers. This will be the only hogfish in the 625g after QT of course. Any info or experiences welcomed

I picked up a small specimen from Diver's Den back in 2014. He was the last fish added to my 120 gallon tank, but he was removed after about two month due to aggression. He was always out in the open swimming, but he was extremely aggressive towards all of my wrasses (Earlie, Hooded, Rhomboid, ...). IMO, they will become aggressive as they get comfortable in the tank. Also, they are jumpers. My fish was hitting the screen top often during the day.

Thanks for the reply. I have 6" worth of euro bracing around the tank or so and have deer netting that I plan on putting over the top. I have heard they are aggressive toward wrasse especially

I had one in my 340 for almost 2 years. I never saw him act aggressively with any of my fish, including wrasses, but he swam about like he owned the tank. When he reached 6", two of my ventralis anthias were killed within a few weeks of each other, one had his tail bitten off at the peduncle and the other had his belly ripped open. They were the smallest fish in the tank. I strongly suspected the bodianus and was going to rehome him but before I could get around to catching him he jumped through a small opening and perished. That was four months ago and I haven't lost another anthias since. So... be careful with small fish.

So it seems the consensus is mean when larger, but also hardy? More concerned with if I add something like a 2-2.5" Mitratus BF or something similar if the hogfish is larger will cause issues? Seems that most think it should be avoided?

My Bodianus never bothered small Angels, tangs or a copperband added after he had been in the tank. But if your looking for a peaceful tank with smaller fish, I would recommend against one.

The tank won't have a lot of small fish but will be mostly angel, BF oriented with smaller fish being a mitratus (whenever I find one) and small Angels
