Bonsai Tree inspired Aquascape

I just came across this thread and, WOW, talk about taking an aquascape to another level!! Very very cool concept and execution! Great idea with 'triming' & 'shaping' your corals to look more and more Bonsai-like....you can get really creative as your tank continues to grow out.

Hello Guy/Gals,

I have decided to take out some rock and lean out my aquascape to give it a more open look. Actually i did not mean for it to look like a bonzai but this is what i came out with. The tank is a 36x36x24 Starfire Rimless. I have a post going on in the reefclub portion for more details on the setup. My other post on my Tank Any feedback is welcome and sorry for the crappy pics i need a new camera.

Here is a Before Shot

I wanted to have least contact with the sand without loosing coral space.

:D

Your tank aquascape looks awsome, how were you able to bond the rocks togher to make it look like its free standing?

Wow - Lots of Beautiful tanks in this thread!

I'll add my in-progress desktop nano with the admonition it wasn't designed as a bonsai tank, but as the end result has a lot of the cantilevered features, I thought might interest Bonsai aficionados...

Sorry for the cloudy water photos - The substrate was just added.

Thanks for looking - Here's the build thread if any one's interested.

wow, thats pretty interesting! Allows you to mount lots of corals with out being over crowded. The grow out would look insane!

Really an insperational tank! Great work, and you growth is amazing!
Why did you go bare bottom?

For a very minimal maintenance system.
The current maintenance on this tank are monthly 50g water changes, empty skimmer cup, change filter sock and scrape glass weekly. This is as low maintenance as i can get without any issues.

What other maintenance were you doing before with the sand bed that you're not doing now?
