I love the blotched anthias and I was just trying to find some information or anyones experiences with them. There doesnt seem to be much information about them currently, anything will be greatly appreciated

Thank you all so much. So here's my question. Should I get one? Will I love it? Lol I think I'm going to!

It's great to see people having pretty good success with this fish!

Andy, only one inch? Thats awesome! Are the colors bright on it or is there more development as it matures? Any chance you have a pic? Lol thanks again everyone for the feedback

I picked up a pair just a few weeks ago. They are around 3" lost the female within 2 days :( The male is doing fine and eating good, but stays hidin in the rocks while the halides are on. When halides go off and just actinics, it is out swimming and hunting for food.

Deeper water Anthias, I hear, so this would make sense. Mine tend to hang out under ledges and such.

We've had our trio for a couple of years now...they're doing super well, and altho they have their little "anthias squabbles", they don't beat on each other, nor do they eventually pick each other off like some species.

Just some inspiration:

Sorry to hear about the loss of your female.

We had a gorgeous large pair of them in the original 300, but lost them w/our tank disaster. I had been looking for replacements for a while and finally got them Friday AM. They are about 1.5" long and are fortunately very healthy.

I picked 1 up a week or so ago. He's big like 3.5". He's awesome! Eats everything. And flakes. Amazing fish! Can't wait to get 2 more to make my trio!

They don't seem as active my other anthias but they're very colorful and usually out and not hiding. He/she sometimes goes after my lyretails but he's a lot slower than them.

Here's mine

Thanks everyone this really helps make my decisions and ive read up a lot. I eventually want a trio but starting with one I guess is a decent start lol.

To tell males and females you look at the third spike on the dorsal fin? am I correct?
