Bought an Established BioCube 29

Hi all,

I've had a 55gal tank for almost a year now and decided to get a lil biocube last weekend. I believe this is my first official post on RC. Been a silent reader for awhile ^^

Anyhow, I bought the whole thing off a guy - rocks, sand, coral and all. Transfered most of the coral into our 55gal but there's two huge rocks with probably over 100 zoas and another with a huge hairy mushroom and feather dusters that has to stay in the biocube. No room in the other tank. I put whatever whatever I could save that was in the tank originally and freshly made water into the tank. I was wondering if it'll still go through the nitrogen cycle and have nitrate spikes. I don't want to lose the guys that are attached to those big rocks. =(

I can't see why you would see any cycle at all.

you didn't add anything did you?

Also, was the tank cared for when it was transported to you?


In transit is the only time I can see anything having died, and thus facilitating a cycle.

I transported it myself and had to break down the contents of the tank. Put most of the live rock in a bucket and tried to keep them moist at least. The rocks with the zoas and shroom were kept submerged in water. Sand was left in the tank and had some water in it too.

The only things I have added to the tank are some calcium and alkaline buffers since they were a bit low after I had set up the tank at home.

I could see you having a small cycle from the rock that was out of the water, but if it was only for an hour or so i'm sure the die off was minimal. Watch it for a week, if the levels stay constant I would be that you won't be having the crappy cycle. Good luck! Take pics for us all if you can.
