brackish puffers? tips on converting

I have two customers that have brackish water puffers. They purchased them from another store in "freshwater" which from my reading is where they spawn. As they get older they return to saltwater. The store was selling them as freshwater and did not tell them they are actually brackish/marine fish. I did also read they like cooler water 68 degrees, not sure what temp they are currently at.

One is a green spot puffer, the other is a orange saddle puffer and two mono sebae.

The saddle puffer tank 46bow is currently below 1.005 on salinity and she has been using fluval salt mix. She had been adding only one teaspoon/tablespoon of salt over the last 3 weeks. I suggested doing a 5gal water change with water mixed up to roughly 1.005 (1/2 cup salt to 5 gal). She said the puffer was much more active and happy after that water change.:bounce3:

Can they continue adding salt weekly to these tanks until they reach full salinity and be safe for the fish?

Should they stop at brackish water salinity? At what sg?

As the salinity rises will it kick into a cycle?

Is there anything else you would recommend that would be beneficial?

I have done this years ago with two figure 8 puffers and one green spotted puffer. I was able to slowly do this by adding saltwater on a weekly basis. These puffers were perfectly fine and the green spotted lived for several years and I ended up converting him back to fresh. I have no experience with a saddle though. The key is to move very slowly I went faster then a tablespoon though and I didn't add straight salt of course.

I have done this just go slowly and yeah 5hey can live in lower Temps down to 60 degrees and live in the bays in south texas coast have caught them fishing before.
