Brain Coral?

Ok...I just got a brain coral....I think it's the coolest thing ever. However, I have read that the best place to put it is in the sand, on the other hand i also read that it may do equally as well on rock. When i got it from my lfs it was on a piece of rockwork. The Brain itself is attached to a barnacle like substance. I placed it about 6" in the middle column of my tank. Does anyone disagree with my placement, feel free to enlighten me with your comments.

"Brain" coral is a broad term. Open brains (Family Trachyphylliidae) generally do best on the sand, the more red varieties requiring even less light. They CAN be glued to rock IF they can completely expand (which can be significant) without touching any rock with their tissue.

Honeycomb type brains (Family Faviidae) can be glued to rock.

All this is just my experience, and feel free to correct me if family names/classifications have changed.
