my torch has 2 branchings and 1 recently appeared to die off. is there any way i can cut off the dead one so it wont spread to the other branch? help

Yes. Get an ordinary rose shears, the wicked curved sort, from your garden shop: do not use an old one, or you may contaminate your tank. Take it out, nip the bad branch off, reseat it. You might want to have some IC-Gel at hand to repair the bond with its base if it should break off. Do NOT touch the healthy head on its slimy parts: that is not good for them.

After use of the shears, rinse in fresh water and towel very dry. Save them for that purpose. I am assuming you have strong enough hands. The torch heads tend to be hollow and not too hard to clip.

newbie504,
[welcome]

You may also be able to just break off the dead branch by hand. They are sometimes brittle enough to do that to.
