Hi Guys

So after I went to pick up my tank, I noticed 2 weeks later (I know I know, should have would have could have) that there are tine 1/2inch vertical scratches near the top trim... they are deep as I can feel them...only 3 of them, and like I said, they are about 1/2inch and there are like 3 of them.....

I can probably get them to make me a new one, but I have to drive back to downtown to drop it off, way 2 weeks and go pick it up again.

What do you guys recommend? I think its a new tank and with these scratches, the tank should have been perfect... but the hassel of having to drive it back to the factory (means I need 4 guys to help me load it and then 4 guys to help unload the new one again) is making me think twice... I know they scratches arent that bad, as they probably would be above the water line anyways..

Suggestions?

Youll see the scratches with the MH gaurantee.

Its up to you, Can "U" live with those scratches, will they be distracting, my littlw 1/2 inch ones are. I need to know how I can buff those out too.

tagging along...

if i were u id either make them fix that panel and pay u for the gas to take it back down or have them credit back some of ur money for the flaws....

when i got my 180 made from lee mar i had problem after problem

first was they were just laggin on makin it

then they delivered it to simi valley all the way from near san diego well when it got here they chipped one of the panels loading it

so they took it back then 2 weeks later i got it again well this time i didnt realize it before but they drilled all my CL holes in the wrong places from where i had drawn them to be

ok so another 2 more weeks then i finally got it

basically it took about 9 weeks from order to recieving my tank

but i paid a good amount of money for it and wanted it perfect i was willing to wait cuz i already had my 100 up and wasnt in a rush

well i have a baby on the way and so this project needs to be finished before the due date which is Sept 1... I am pretty much set though, just need to sell off my old tank and some corals and fish from it as well... I guess I could do that while I take it back and ask for a new one.

What the HELL is up with custom orders these days.. why is it NOBODY can get them right, or at least it seems like it to me.

First my stand and canopy ( I only told the guy the opening needs to be at least 72.5 x 24.5, and what I got was 72.25 x 24.25...oh and I told him I have a center overflow and he built it with a center brace...but I managed to work around these two problems without delaying the project... but now this... cant anyoe make this work right? I havent even tested it to see if its water tight...so maybe I am better off just taking it back... they did also chip the CL drain hole, but I think I could have worked around that....

I know now that I see these scratches and I dont think I can live with them...plus if I ever sell the tank, why would I want more scratches to deal with....man.... well, guess I can see if they will reimburse me for the gas...

Save yourself the hassle and don't set it up :D

I know this isn't what you want to hear but almost EVERY reefer I know who has had a kid ends up selling their tank in the first year. Kids are expensive, time consuming and by far the coolest hobby a person can get into.

Just a thought...

how much is it to replace the front panel of a tank of a 150 to starphier or even replace the orig glass?

probably around 400 dollars or so. I know for a 120 the difference is about 250-300.

Ghever, which company did you order the tank through?

OK if yu can't live with it. fix it. my comment here is that a 55 g was the 1st thing my whife and I bought. not to be dated, but 4 kids and 2 grandkids later. the fish have been the BEST relaxsation they had. just setup the kids in there little swings infront of them. Never start off with something new that has a problem, it will ALWAYS be on your mind

I would take good photos and ask the manufacturer to send out someone to polish the scraches out of the tank. They will probably be happy to do so instead of taking the whole tank in return and rebuilding it. If you ordered it through a LFS they will probably have to contact the manufacturer for you; hence the need for clear and well documented photos.

If you touch it yourself and screw it up or don't get them all the way out, you are S.O.L. And if you don't take care of it now, you will always notice those scratches and be unhappy about it. The scratches can be polished out of regular glass; I am sure it works for starphire, too?

UPDATE: Well, I started to think, this is a new tank, no way can it be scratches...but if you run your finger across them they sure did feel like em, except they felt like they might be more outward than in... so I cot a straight edge razor.. and ran through the scratch.... RESULT: No more scratch...meaning it wasnt a scratch, but some sort of a glue most likely...man I am happy.. another crisis averted... I am on a tight timeline with the kid due in Sept.

To all recommending not having it because of the kid... well, I'd get rid of the kid first.. hahahha.. I am just KIDDING!!

I enjoy the reef way too much, and with new businesses on the way etc etc, I know the tank will be my relaxation as well... and I am setting it up right from the start.. with automated water changes built into the system to minimize the time I need to maintain the tank.
