brand new mp40, thats it???

well i ordered my mp40 on thurs and here today, thats fast shipping. well in preperation for my pump, i read and saw operational videos and was a bit prepared for arrival, but now that my mp40 is on my 120g, the flow doesn;t seem right. i am half way in savings for a second one because i know one might not be enough. But i am currently running on reefcrest at 100% and something must be wrong because i am barely getting any movement and my surface is unmoved...do see an impressive undertow, but my frogs and torches on the other side are barley waving. no rock work in the middle..
can someone please do a step1. step 2 simple explanation of how to set up an operational mode, the manual only talks about master/slave configuration.

i did 1)press mode button until light is yellow (reefcrest) 2)move dial all the way up to full strength. 3) press set to accept this mode.

please help me if i am missing something, hopefully i am. thanks

put the spacer in between the glass, line up properly..this one is real important . make sure it is set up right with the cord up as it was designed to use. then you should be able to get constant or blue mode i believe. and if its working properly you should see agitation. My mp40 is 6 or 7 inches from the water level. hope that helps.

Spacer is in, cord is up, it is aligned because it is almost dead silent, being kept quiet by my noisy light fixture, I believe. I get all the modes, but just seems weak, flow is weak, and that's at 100%

Switch to Constant or Lagoon at 100% to observe the flow; Reefcrest generally operates the pump at much less than full power. Check the manual for the flow patterns. IMO, Reefcrest is much more effective with a second pump in anti-sync.

i think for the full blown manual, you would have to download it online...

i havent really tinkered with my mp60 much. since i'm FOWLR, its hard to notice anything except for the surface agitation.

+1 on putting your hand there. you should notice it is pretty strong. how far is it format he surface of the water..you never answered that to BTW..

Sorry, exactly 8 inches from surface, okay the install went like this, rubber pad on tank, rotated motor end to 3/8 ( got this number directly from aqeon, just verifying my measurement) , is this the spacer u guys talk about.

I'm pretty sure at this point it is user error, so thank u for the help and for your patience, ok so to set in reef crest, i tap on mode till it changes yellow, move dial to speed, then press set, is that it ? Am I missing something? Should I put the pump closer to the top? Thanks

Reefcrest runs the pump at around 50% power most of the time. Switch it to nutrient transport for a bit as see how the corals react and you will also get a wave action on the surface. At least I do on my 125 (6ft) with only 1 mp40, I just dont leave it there for to long because its the noisiest setting, you will hear the pump ramping up and down

I prefer Lagoon over Reefcrest any day.

Reefcrest runs the pump below 50% the majority of the time. Lagoon runs the pump above 50% more than it doesn't.

On a 4 foot tank you really need 2 pumps, even if the second pump is an MP10. I had 2 MP10's on my 40 gallon breeder. They seemed to push the water about 30" max.

The flow is real broad on the vortechs, I would not expect to have much flow on the otherside of a 4 foot tank.

Thanks guys, don't get me wrong, my tank looks more natural than it has ever looked before, just making sure everything was ok. There seems to be no more stuff set on the surface, everything is suspended and my skimmer is skimming like never before. Is 8 inches from the water line too low, thanks

+1 here. My other side is also 4 feet. One side has my mp40 while the other side has an mp10. the other side won't get much movement from the mp40.

As far as your pump position, it's fine. my buddies have theirs about the same position as yours.

Mp40 is not euff for a 120 . I have a wave box crank all the way up 5000gph and 2 PH that are 1200 E and still need more flow.

Ok thanks guys, switched to nutrient export mode and also moved pump to 5 inches below water line, much much better movement and wave action going, about 100 dollars from my second mp40 and see how much better this goes. Thanks

yeah let us know, my mp40 on my 90gal isn't enough. i have a koralia on the other side for now until i can get an mp10
