Brands of salt

I've read so many articles and threads that all the information is starting to get kinda fuzzy. I remember reading that the different brands of salt had different amounts of certain minerals and also different in measured levels of akalinity and what not; is this correct or am I way off?

If this is correct, then is there some kind of comprehensive list or collection of lists of which brands are known to have more of what stuff?

Thanks :)

Those links don't seem to be working for me, but the advanced aquarist website is great and I found what I was looking for.

Thanks again :)

Sorry seems those links were older, I got them from the chemistry forum articles, I will let Randy know about them.

The links are OK when posted, but you cut and pasted truncated links, which can't work. :D

My March article deals with selecting a salt mix. Here's a thread with a preview, including full links:

Thanks Randy. Jonathan pointed that to me last night.

That is good news about article and you getting on the band wagon. I think we might need a practical point of view once an for all. The one thing I can say is that when I start thinking that finally, I got the right salt, it all takes for me to start liking it for the manufacturer to pull the carpet and to change it or come with a quality control issue that trows me back to square one. :D

Please dear god tell me your article says that Instant Ocean is okay :)

Looking forward to reading it; you're articles are always really informative.

I can tell you IO is okay (That is what Randy uses :D) although Reef Crystals is better IMO as you can use it without further supplementation although for the price diferential it may not worth it as you can supplement IO to reach the RC levels with a lot less money.

Glad to oblige. :D

The thread linked above gives the suggested salt mixes, including IO, Reef Crystals, and Tropic Marin. :)
