breeding bangaii cardinals..what do i need?

natep206

Blenniella chrysospilos
ok so sometime in the near future im thinking of getting another bangaii. the only reason i would is so they would mate and i could raise the fry.

what would i need? like a 10 gallon tank, heater, wooden airstone,...what do they eat do i need a filter?

a 10 gallon tank, heater, wooden airstone

That is fine for the fry. A sponge filter for the first few weeks or even a small power filter with the intake protected with fine screen so they don't get sucked up. For food you will have to hatch brine shrimp for quite some time and if you have continued broods you can just pretty much consider it a daily chore forever...

where can i get brine eggs. and is there anything special about hatching them. also how long will till they eat perpared foods?

antoher thing, once paired how long till they start breeding?

thanks,
nate

is this post real ??

is this post real ??

Nate are you putting us on ??

if you honestly dont know these things then you first, need to sit down and read all the threads on this site, then go to the archives and read all there,

meanwhile get some good basic books on marine fish keeping.

btw, contrary to popular belief, bangai fry while being mouth brooded will benefit from rotifers, once released they are easily able to take bbs, preferably enriched. They are big enough at that point to do well on the started bbs instead of just new hatched.

A large brood in a ten gallon tank also needs the bottom siphoned daily and some water changed each week.

no im not putting u on. and just cause i dont know what i need to raise bangaii fry, or hatch brine shrimp u think i know nothing about marine fish and aquaria?

thats not a very logical asumtion now is it?
nate

The male broods the fry in his mouth, drawing in tank water which contains planktonic food, I have reared bangai fry with and without rotifers and every brood that had rotifers was released sooner and larger then the broods without.

Nate you asked questions that indicate you dont have much knowledge about some basics, such as raising brine shrimp. Information that is present on the Reef Central site. Based on that it seems very logical to me to suggest that you do some homework that is available here.

Nuff, I'm out of this one.

ok so because i havnt hatchd brine shrimp before that means and i quote

first of all not every thread has anything about hatching brine shrimp and if brine shrimp is a basic thing in the hobby that everyone does then i can understand but i dont think everyone does. what you said was very condicending and un called for. basicaly telling me i dont know any of the basics of marine aquaria just because i havnt ever needed to hatch nrine shrimp there for i dont know how.

Please don't be offended. It is usually best to ignore that which ticks one off. Assume he did not mean it the way it reads to you, and move on.

Nate,

Good luck with you plans to breed the Bangai, I am looking forward to hearing your success stories.

I am interested in finding more about the use of Rots. I would never have thought of using rots for the male to feed the juniors with. Tell us more, what made you think of it, etc.

I am always trying to find ways to increase the success of the breeding program.

Using the Rots, would that explain why you need to clean the tank more, although, I must admit that having them in the sump means that I do not need to worry about the cleaning as there are critters that take care of that for me.

I have to agree with Jake's comments. You cannot just add another banggai that easily. IF you have two males they will fight. Two females they will fight. You must be able to get the banggai out of the tank if they do not get along. Just a 10 gallon tank will not do it either. I had a breeding program with them for years. I had to have six tanks to grow them out. It takes work but it is worth it to provide captive raised fish to other hobbyist and stores, especially the banggai.

Yes, I'm all over that :D Unless you pull the male and isolate in an "offline tank" with NO filtration I don't see how that could work. PLEASE give some details on this. It does sound like a reasonable idea but I just don't see how to implement it . My best guess is that stressing him like that will most likely cause him to dump the eggs. IF you are gonna freak us all out with some radical new idea the least you can do is explain how it works :D
