So im getting another large tank to put inline with my system and orgionaly i was goin to use it as another live rock tank but ive been holding onto a paired onyx baby clowns and now i want to get a baby pair and put hem into the 125 im putting inline with my system.

What the plan is to just put rock and a large nem into the tank and put 2 baby clowns in the tank and thats it. Basically another diaplay tank but in my sump room (my sump room is larger than a avarge living room)

I dont want common clownfish. I already have a pair of commons in my dt and i have a black saddel back in my bedroom tank. Black saddel backs are sweet but idk if they mate frequently in a tank.

What im looking to do is not to raise babies to make money but id like to have two clowns in a large tank and a nem and let them be. So id like clowns that are know to mate easily.

Anyone have luck with a type of clownfish that mate like teenagers in highschool?

If all that you are looking for is a pair and an anemone, GSM clowns may be a good option. They're aggressive, but if they're the only fish in the tank, that isn't a problem. Their natural host is a bubble tip also. So they will go in in probably. IMO, they're very pretty fish.

They breed readily in home aquariums. And even if you only get 5% of every clutch to become juveniles, you'll have 50+ per batch. The one downside that I can think of is that it takes a while for them to develop their yellow stripe.

I have a pair of these guys,http://vividaquariums.com/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=01-1914-S&Category=Fish:Clownfish&SortBy=Price they are not breeding that I know of..But they never leave the BTA(well the female does sometimes, but the male never) mine are not mean at all..

there are also these..I dont know much about these guys..http://vividaquariums.com/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=01-1913-S&Category=Fish:Clownfish&SortBy=Price people say these are the mean ones I guess..

For breading for profit as you want to do..go for these guys..http://www.liveaquaria.com/diversden/ItemDisplay.cfm?c=2733+3&ddid=93915 have to take a chance to make money..as you can see maroon clowns are a dime a dozen.

These would be cool also http://www.liveaquaria.com/diversden/ItemDisplay.cfm?c=2733+3&ddid=89454

If you are looking to breed for money, I would go with the standard ocellaris. Seriously. You'll be able to sell 10x more of them than any other clownfish. Your LFS will probably buy more of these than any other fish. Any clownfish you breed will give you many many babies though. If you were to raise them all, you wouldn't be able to sell them all. LFS and people on here just wouldn't be able to take enough.

In my opinion it's not worth it if you are only doing it to raise funds. There is a TON of work involved and unless you are on a commercial level the profit doesn't justify the work/time involved in the process.

Hopefully StashuDave or Acdraindrps will chime in on the thread, they have a lot more experience on the subject.

If you were to do it though for profit id go with the picassos or the platinums like toddmh said, youd make a pretty penny per clown :) and im sure caribbean and the reef shoppe would most definately buy them seeing how your in rochester, but i have heard its a decent amount of work.

Nope im not lookin to do it for profit. I would just like to give it a shot. I really just want a pair of very happy clowns in a big tank with a nice large nem.

Thanks for the replies so far im looking into the picassos /onyx /aussie blacks/ golden band maroon (not the ugly ora ones). Black saddel backs or ora midnights.

Brandon..if you do this, would you mind starting a thread that shows the steps start to finish? (with pics? i'm a visual sorta person...no blonde comments, please! lol)

Kat, the breeding forum has some good topics from start to finish. Unfortunately, some of the threads are really long.

There are other marine breeder forums that are a great (even better than RC [sorry]) resource.
