breeding clowns without a grow out tank?

I am curious if anyone has ever breed ocellaris clownfish without the use of growout tanks? i understand that this would be terribly unorthodox. The idea came to me after seeing my friends 75 gallon aquarium, in his 75 he has a large variety of tropical freshwater fish. the guppies in the tank of course breed like rabbits and in general one would think that since there is a variety of fish the fry would be eaten. but without any extra help those guppy fry hide and survive and eat and grow up.

is there any possibility that clown fry could pull that stunt off?

The parents will probably eat the fry. You also need to keep the water stocked with rotifers which will be very difficult with the amount of waste they produce. Fry will also be killed by filtration. IMHO no.

Its been reported in the past, many such reports never seemed to pan out or turned out to be something other than a clownfish. If memory serves some of those using plenums and careful selection of inhabitants had minimal luck, mostly by not using pumps and conventional filters. Even with such minimal success none of the reports demonstrated a real success 1 clown baby out of 2000 isnt a real success. If you want baby clowns the current methods are well researched and are currently the best methods of getting them.
