Breeding E. Oceanops (Neon Goby)

Hey all,
I have been trying to raise my neon goby fry for a few months now. The first attempted resulted in 21 days post hatch and end with poor results due to human error (forgot to plug my heater back in :headwally:) I was wondering if any of you fellow breeders have had any success in reaching meta, and what you did to increase survival rates. I am interested in how often and how much water was changed, and if things such as amquel or prime are suitable for juvenile fish.
Thanks,
Matt

I have raised thousands of gobies.

If you made it to day 21 you were days shy of meta, to increase the # of fish you raise from a batch, feed lots of rotifers enriched about 20-35/ml. Changing water 20% from day 4 and on, siphon water, sieve the rotifers drip new water in.

Feed enriched rotifers twice a day and add green water up to 3 times a day if you can if not just in morning/afternoon.

Amquel or prime , you dont need it but will not harm the larvae if used.

Oh and do not unplug the heater :-)

Thanks for the info. Just out of curiosity what kind of flow did you use? I was using a air stone that produced micro bubbles for the cheap skimmers to reduce large bubbles potentially injuring the fish. One other thing is lighting. Did you run a 24hr photoperiod for several days or did you use a different photo cycle?
Thanks for the help!

I use one of the regular airtones slow flow, they stay away from it. Good question, I keep it 24 hours for them, use a bright light about 8 inches from the surface I use one of those clip on reflectors with a CF bulb. The bright light keeps them at the surface feeding. I use black tubs to rear them you can see pics on my site, that way the bright light 24 hours is inside the tub and wont bother the other fish.

And did you change 20% of the water every day or was that weekly? One other thing is did you enrich the rotifers with anything?

every day water changes make you you drip the water so it does not upset too much, I use a hufa enrichment, good algae paste or selco/selcon can get it done.
