Breeding System

Lockes

New member
I am setting up a new breeder system.

I have had some success with clowns so would like to continue with them and maybe try bangaii cardinals and even a goby species

I have a 72" X 24" stand thta I want to use for the breeding setup. What do you think would be the best use of the stand. I thought five tanks of 24" X 13" which is around 30g would be ok or could I get away with something smaller

Do you think it is a bad idea to link the system to my reef tank?

I will be running sumps on both systems each with their own skimmers anyway.

I am almost completed doing the same thing. I so far have setup 6 - 20's linked to my current system. I find it easier to keep the water pristine. Also I'd rather one large $800 skimmer rather than 2- $400 skimmers. I dont know if its the best idea, but I'm doing it.

If you get a chance, read Mattt Wittenrich breeders guide, it has a lot of really good information on setups and info on different species. they sell it on amazon for like 30 bucks i think.

Heres mine, made with AGA 20 Longs. Six in total and each tank has acrylic dividers.

I have been told? to run the same water for the new larvae as the original tank they come out of???so hooking them together would make sense...also on the rotifer how about running the same water foir them also, obviously in there own holding tank but with the same water???I called florida culture farms & they told me to keep my salinity on my rotifers between 1.026-1.030 which I thought was kinda high but I keep my main tank at 1.025 so that would work out perfect...The girl I talked to said to use tank water for the rotifers also for the stability of the water???

Mine is a similar setup as the pic above..

This is last weeks pic. I have done the lighting for top two rows and suppurted all the pvc since then. Between today and tomorrow I'm plumbing the bottom 5 10 gals. On the shelf on the floor, I am going to keep phyto/rots.

Also I wanted to do the divider thing on the 20's but I havent found a good solution yet. I want it removable and be sturdier than the ones they sell online.

I think this is so the rots dont get shocked and die due to the drastic salinity change when feeding.

Rots should be kept lower than regular sea water since they are actually brackish water animals that are the 'saltwater rotifers'. It would be a bad idea imo to use tank water because then you would more than likley get some copepods in there and then you would no longer have a roti culture bc copepods are a natural predator of rots. Best to have them in their own system and replace w clean saltwater when you feed out. I keep my rots at 1.016, but no more than .007 less than the water they are going into or you will cause them to go into osmotic shock. hth

Please forgive me for being a beginner in the breeding process, but can someone explain the importance of the flower pot for the clowns? I know, at least I think I do, that the flat piece of rock is for the laying of the eggs, but honestly beyond that, I am clueless.

The flower pot is a flat surface for the clowns to lay there eggs on. You can use a tile or a pot. There is more to it but thats the simple part.
