breeding systems?

Right now, probably 5 hours a week.

I spend about 20 or 30 minutes a day during the week. I can get most things done during an intermission in the hockey game. I watch a lot of hockey (like 4+ games a week). I spend double that on Saturday and Sunday probably.

When you first start out, or you acquire a new pair, or you need to modify something, you'll spend a bunch of time.

Clownfishes is good, but I preferred Matt Wittenrich's book. It's more affordable, has more species, and is a little more up to date. Plus, he's from Western NY, which is kind of cool.
Matt Wittenrich is a great guy, he actually won the MASNA Aquarist of the Year and is extremely knowledgable when it comes to anything breeding. He's on MBI as well. :)

I am not concerned with time at this point. what I am trying to do is see how many people have setups running get a feeling for what works and what doesnt. I have been in this hobby about 10 years and have successfully raised clowns and bangaii its not like I am going in blind.

Just curious as to why? Seems like some money can be made from it. Is it too intensive or just not worth it?

Unless you breed enough to sell wholesale (like hundreds a month), who are you going to sell to? Your LFS can probably take a handful of each clown a week. Selling 10 clowns a week isn't going to make you much money.

If you concentrate on designer fish (platinum, onyx, etc), you'll make more per fish, but the LFS will take a pair every few weeks. You could sell them online, but that is a huge hassle.

You can't sell them on RC either. It's against policy because you are raising them with the intent to sell.

if you breed 2 platinum's will you get all platinum's an so on? Ive often wondered that. Or is it a mutation that only select babies get?

It depends on the fish. Platinum parents will breed platinum fry. Only some of them will be platinum though. If you bred the babies, they would probably throw a higher % of platinums. I'm not sure of the %, and I'm sure it varies wildly

That is true.

Was thinking more like shrimp, but had also considered fish.

are you still doing it

I'm down to a pair of bangaii. Bought joyce's book, did my homework, etc. Joe got my clowns. It's amazing how many people have sucess without trying. Breeding has a lot to do with being organised and planning ahead. Cleanliness is next to godliness. You could totally do it,if you wanted to. The recipe isn't a secret. It'just really hard to keep everything going at once. Make 1 tiny mistake and you lose the batch. There's definitely a learning curve.
