Briangsxr1000's 120 Rimless Build Thread

I am starting my 120 rimless build. The tank is coming from Miracles Aquarium.
Stand is being built by Joeswoodworks.

List of stuff I still need to purchase are: 6 bulb t5. Prob a TEK or ATI fixture.
Mag 9.5 return pump. Also need a few powerbite leds. If anybody has any of these items laying around I will be happy to buy them used if they are in good shape!

I am very excited to get this rolling and hopefully tank gets here sooner than later...:bounce3:

Any suggestions during the build are greatly appreciated. It is always good to get an opinion from another set of eyes.

Attached is a pic of what I currently have. All livestock will be transferred into new tank. (except for the urchins) if anybody wants them they are free. One pincushion and one long spine.

kewl kewl kewl! congrats! what are the dimensions? r u going with a gl******* overflow? i bet its going to look way kewl with a low profile fixture hanging from above.

not sure what you mean by the overflow? I am thinking a 6 bulb tek t5 will do me right for this. I have to say I am not to happy with Miracles customer service. Very hard to get in touch with them and they try to rush me with the conversations I have with them when I question them on how I can make the setup.
I am still waiting on a call back from them to work on the specifics....:(

i am sorry to hear about the customer service, it seems just after the holiday that derek been quite busy, i too had trouble getting in touch with him but i talked to nathan, he updates me.

its best if you have your design ready, sketched, and then youll both have something to talk about. if you feel rushed, let him know, for the money you are spending you should not feel that way.

have a 36" tek 6 bulb for sale but ya prob want a 48" if your interested let me know its about 3 months old

I am actually thinking of changing it up a bit....Miracles really isn't trying to hard to sell me a tank so I may just go with a oceanic or Marineland with a glass holes kit.
Has anybody had a oceanic? Wondering if they are worth the extra cash? Or if a Marineland would be suitable.

Capt Cully, how do you like the oceanic compared to Marineland?

Personally, I'd go with the marineland. Oceanic is overpriced IMO. I'm gonna go with a Miracles if I can swing it. Not sure if Marineland has a tank that'd fit my needs and tastes. The deep dimension tanks are sweet, although I think Starphire is a farse.

What dimensions are you looking at? 4x2 footprint? I mean your stand is already underway, so that may handcuff you a touch.

I def want a 120 4x2 setup. I would go with a Miracles tank but they kind of irritated me a bit. Not returning my calls and emails for days....Then I finally talk to somebody and felt rushed through the whole conversation....ugh kind of frustrated.. Just venting a bit...lol
The woman likes the canopy look to...so she tried to squash the idea of rimless...:(

another beautiful stand! joe sure does some good work :) i shouldve went that route, probably save some money too.

He is very reasonable and does great work....I am actually going to have him do some cabinets for my kitchen in the future. I saw a lot of his work at his house and it is fantastic to say the least...

sorry to hear Miracles is being difficult. Perhaps go thru RandyO at ARC?? Maybe that'd make things smoother? Maybe he could get you a better deal?? I dunno. I'm going thru my local shop and seems to make things easier.

I sent them a few emails and got the run around, until solRNY/Lang made me a sketch. They still didn't respond to me, but when I gave the sketch to ABC Reefs, I had a quote in a few hrs.

That is weird. The tank was pretty basic. 120 rimless. lol I was going to install
my own overflows and such. There weren't really and specifics to it.
I do worry a little about fish jumping out of a rimless also.

I'll admit, I love a beautiful rimless as much as the next guy. But, I used to have a tank with a hanging light fixture and the scatter from the light was blinding. I much prefer a canopy in my home. Not to discredit anyone without one. Again, seen many beauties. Just my preference for layout in my house.
