Bright Red algae in my BB reef

Bomber,
Do you think that Emeralds will eat it as well? I have a ton of that growing in my home tank right now. It's most prevelant on the back wall of the tank where the crabs can't reach it.

I have had an emerald or two that have munched on it. But as an occasional snack, not as a regular main course, if you catch my drift.

I have the solution. My doliatus rabbitfish loves this algae. I had a lot of the same stuff in my tank and upon introduction, the doliatus mowed it down within a few days. Of course this is no guarantee, but he does relish the stuff.

My snails eat it, my yellow tang loves to eat it, and my sps corals seem to make it recede when the bases encrust.

I had it really bad a couple months ago. For some reason mine subsided and only grows in certain areas if at all.

I know some people here have luck with certain critters eating this stuff, but does anyone have experiance in something completely irradicating it or putting a serious dent in it?

In case people want to see the pics of mine, it is different than the pics higher up in this discussion but I wonder if it isn't closer to what some are experiencing.

I also have this algae. I believe it is called taxaformis or something like that. It loves high flow areas. I have been battling it for 2 yrs now. The fish pick at it but can't eat it fast enough. Also Mexican trocus snails seem to eat it also. So far I can't get rid of it either. My tank is BB and has been for 2 yrs now. I wish there was a cure for this stuff. It also grows on my tunze streams covers. It will start growing on any piece of rock or rubble you add to the tank. It's a sight for sore eyes. My corals seem to do fine no problems there.

Mine was gone overnight after I change llight bulbs-all of them(mh/pc)

carib, what kind of lights do you have? I get it from time to time and I noticed that it usually starts after I changeout one of my T5's. I believe it has something to do with lighting because it seams to pick up steam through out the day (When the lights are on) and slows down when it's lights out. Also I noticed when I turned on my ozone from low to hi it seemed to help. Can't say for sure if the Ozone has any relation to the alge but I thought I would throw in my two cent. But I am sure the light to some degree has something to do with it.

The bulbs are five months old they are three 250W 10K XM MH and two 96W PC 7100K.
As for the Ozone I never see any diffrence even with 200Mg of ozone.
