The pictures I see here are a bit blurry, it makes it look like red slime instead.

I bought 6 emeralds
10 Mexican turbos

I have alot of asteas and ceriths coming in. I will buy a yellow tang to see what he does.

Interesting!!!!!!! We want pics!!!!!!!!!

I've had bad experiences with emeralds and sps but it is nice to know they eat this stuff just in case worse comes to worse.

Now what do I do with the 5 beautiful Pieces of rock that I took because they had the same stuff on it? I took them out since in the beginning they were the only rocks with the stuff on it little did I know all the rocks have it.

Can I put some of them back in? It shouldn't make a cycle right?

I drove about 4 hours yesterday to go to http://www.thatpetplace.com/

It's sad when no one has something you want. I usually order online but I was a little bored. I can tell you it was a little disappointing going there. I expected much more. But I have to say all of there corals looked VERY healthy.

They only had about 5-6 pieces of Acros. They had mostly Soft corals

I think you be ok to add the rock back in.
arconom i cook my rock also and the red algae never die.
I know one thing, i got one of the rocks out of the reef tank that had the red algae on it just to try out and put it in my FOWLR tank the algae die out in two weeks.
That tells me the algae likes clean water and high lights.

Same here. I have rocks that were taken out of the sps reef and put into the FOWLR. When they went into the FOWLR they had plenty of this algae growing on them, now they have none.

Hard to say. I think there would still be a chance it could grow back. All it would take is that one little root that didn't completely die off.

argh! :( i've got this stuff too! does anyone here using zeovit have it? i'm just kinda curious.

At this point I know I have the algea and I will deal with it. I know it will come back on those pieces. Even if it did die only to be taken back over by spores.

I just don't want the rock to recycle my tank when I add a piece a week back into the tank.

One rock has been cleared by the emeralds. It was the size of my fist. They did leave some roots. So I guess eventually on that piece it will grow and get mowed again.

Also like Travis said they bothered his Corals. So I did a search and others have problems with them also picking on corals.

tfp,
i use zeovit and i still have it... like zoom said..this algae likes clear water ,hi flow and light
my next step will be a emerald crabs..
i know for sure then mex. turbo eats it,but i dont like them they too big..

this stuff is the spawn of the devil! :mad2:
it survived my rock cooking process too and was one of the reasons i "cooked" to begin with :(

heck, i shoulda cooked all my snails too since their shells seem to harbor it

Has it effected yours corals at all? From the looks of it no way. Awesome corals BTW.

What have you tried, and what are you currently doing to take care of this algae?
