P.S. - Chubakah do you work for Brightwell? i was just curious as you're on every single neozeo thread on every reefing forum on the net i've read in the last week lol, if not they should be giving you kickbacks for spreading the word :)

LMAO, I agree they should be giving me some kickbacks, in fact next time I talk to Chris I will mention that.
:D

In any event, I do not work for Brightwell. I had some inside info about the product before it hit the streets which was just about the time water changes alone was not going to be quite enough for my system, and had to make a choice between a calcium reactor, or dosing of some sort.

I have a good friend who is in the industry who was kind enough to take me to a wholesaler where I met Chris for the first time and got to speak with him about the system. I believe that was June of last year. A few months later Chris came to a local club meeting and he and I sat down for almost a couple of hours and I was able to pick his brain which is in this thread somewhere.

I've stayed in contact with him and told him about some of my experiences. I have had very good luck with the system, and stand behind his products.

In my experience Chris has been a very stand up guy, and I am always going to support someone who seems to really care about the hobby first and foremost.

I'm not for sure, but I think it is the first system of this kind made in the USA, and I am always going to get behind that first.

Here is my 40 gallon rimless running complete Neo-Zeo.
1. Zeo-stones/ MRC Reactor with maxi-jet 1200 as feed.
2. 5 drops of bacter weekly
3. 2-3 drops of Bio-Fuel daily
4. 5 drops of Potassion every 3 days
5. 3 drops of Ferrion every 3 days
6. 3 drops of BW aminos with daily feeding
7. 3 drops of Vit C every 3 days
8. 1 capful of Replinish every week
9. 3 drops of Restor, after wc's
10. 5 drops of Koral Color every week
11. 2 drops of Reef Snow every night
12. 2 drops of Zoo Planktos every night
13. 5 drops of Strontium every week
14. 3 drops of Lugols every week

I also run a 20 gallon RDSB fuge with red grape calupera, and have a 20 gallon sump. My dosing is very much on the light side, as far as the quantity vs the directions. Also, I do not dose all the elements on the same days, they are alternating. With this demanding dosing schedule, every once in awhile I might miss dosing something here or there, but spend great time observing the corals reactions to dosing, and have found less works better for me. I also disturb the stones 2 times per week, only done when the skimmer is running at peak skim. I have 7 fish, several inverts, and feed quite heavy. My skimmer is a ATI Bubblemaster 160 rated for 2-3 times my tank, so I feel I run inherintly low on nutrients to begin with. I have been running the system sice November 08, this tank was setup running Neo-Zeo. HTH's... I think it is worth mentioning that a little of all of the products go a long way, and don't be fooled into thinking that this system will cure defects of poor husbandry. I feel your skimmer is the most important component of running this system, or any sps system for that matter. GL

lol chubakah get on some freebies they owe you!! :) but great work, have you by chance tried they're restor product? been wondering if it works on rtn?

hey sweet setup pyle i have an 90 gallon rimless much like yours but looks like the craftsmanship on your tank might be a little better then mine, love the edges, i too have a bm200, it is one of the reasons i attribute my low nutrients too, that and cooking the rocks :) are you running a phoenix lamp with your mh? I'll send you some pics of my tank its quite similar, its a little rough right now in terms of coral placement lol so don't want to post until i get it nice, i'm ocd.

Can someone send me the PDF file that has all the instructions on it. Is it posted somewhere where I can download it?

Jason, I believe CHUBAKAH has it. Shoot him a PM.

Yes!!!! Thanks Chubakah

YGPM as well with the answers to your other questions.
:D

Quick question.

Can I add the new BW substrate, by taking 2lb of my LS out, and replacing it with the 3lbs of BW substrate.

"# A blend of high-purity aragonite particulate grades to simulate the natural substrate particle profile of tropical reef lagoons. # Multiple particulate grades encourage biochemical reactions (e.g. nitrification and denitrification) within the sediment to facilitate continuous release of constituent ions (calcium, carbonate, strontium, magnesium, potassium, and sixty minor and trace elements), encouraging the growth of reef-building organisms and helping stabilize pH. # Over 39% calcium and 57% carbonate by dry weight. # Applications include refugia, sea grass and macroalgae bed systems, mangrove systems, and other methods of filtration employing substrate to facilitate natural reduction of organic and nitrogenous waste, and reef aquaria of all sizes (notably nano-reef systems). "

Lost my zoa's, to something untank related. Stupid me washed my hands, and soon after put my hand in the tank. Zoa's instantly turned inside out, and haven't come out since. Also lost a brain coral.

So, since all I have is fish in there right now, is it possible to do add this new BW substrate?

Stupid mistake, I know. I usually clean my hands before/after touching the tank. For some reason I used soap, and must have nuked my tank.

Did a 30% WC immediately, and just finished another 30% WC. Will likely continue to do so, on Saturday and Monday.

Cleanup crew, including a peppermint shrimp made it, and both fish are fine. Neither is breathing hard, both are swimming as normal and still eating.

Mistake on my part. Live and learn...
:(

What did you wash you hands with?
I usually wash my hands before I work with my tank and I have never had a problem. I use dish liquid detergent as it rinses clean and is designed to leave no residue. A plus to this is that it removes oils on your hands as well.

Adding the substrate will be fine. No problem there. Try and mix it in with your current substrate. Don't pour it on top and leave it. Most important is that you mix it in.......

Same. Liquid Detergent. And I cannot think of anything "negative" or "harmful" on my hands. Was on the computer for about two hours, ate lunch, wash hands, watched some TV, drank a cola or two, washed hands, put hands in tank, zoa's immediately shrank and my brain coral is beyond gone; skin is gone, skeleton showing.

Did a Lugols dip a few hours later. No help.

Can I use hand sanitizer instead? Or just use warm water?

Nothing test wise shows anything out of place...

How do I mix the substrate in? What's the best method.

I wash my hands all the time before and after and never had a problem.

Me too! Do you use any kind of soap, or just water?

I have some foam stuff that my wife buys (Bath and Body works antibacterial). Its pretty manly stuff! I do always rinse really well, but I don't worry too much. Maybe I should.

Are you guys running carbon actively or passively? I run GAC actively in a phosban reactor, changing the media about every 2 weeks. Using BW carbon currently, I occasionally forget to wash my hands before diving in, maybe the carbon helps, heck, I dont know...lol... I have made some big idiotic mistakes as far as accidentally contaminating my tank goes, but I have also always run carbon, just a thought... BTW, I only rinse/wash my hands off with tap water, I try to avoid any soaps as much as possible. Do you run a filter sock? If so, how do you clean them? Just making sure detergent from the washing machine didn't leach it's way into the tank. GL

Thank You homeboyreefer! This tank is well built, i absolutely love it, custom designed 1" acrylic. The BM's are good, mine is just a bit finicky at times, but pretty much dialed in, and when skimming, really kicks it out good. I run an Aquatinics 250 watt SE Radium with 2 supplemental t5's, Geisemann Actinic + and KZ Fiji Purple. Send the pics, looking forward to it.

I have not posted in several months and wanted to share these two pictures. This first one is a current full tank shot from this week.

I have been using neo zeo since last June (for about a year). I was using the full method from about September to March. I took the stones off in March because my reactor is fablooey.

I am now using the MB7 and RBF along with my old ULNS stuff - Prodibio. I am dosing the Biodigest and Bioptim as every two weeks and a lower dose of MB7 in between. I have cut down to using RBF about once a week until I can get another zeolith reactor.

I am still using the organic stuff - coralamino, phytochrom, reefbooster, zooplanktos S and koralle VM.

Inorganics- koralcolor and potassion. I throw a dab of iodion and strontion now and then.

This next picture is from about a year ago before I started neo zeo.

Growth has been very good considering the light system. The PAR seems to be sufficient. I am also please with the color of the corals. The fish have even colored up! :D

I have been getting this green/brown film that is growing on the sand. This started around the time I took the stones off the tank. I have been adjusting my dosing down and it is fading.

Most all of the macro algae that was growing in my tank last year is gone. This was the whole reason I started using the ULNS stuff. The little boost on coral coral and growth is a nice bonus.
