I need to do that in my 28gal. I have way too many. I lift a frag and theres atleast 10 of them..not to mention when I feed it looks like the night of the living dead.
if you have an over abundance of them you are over feeding...their population will go up and down with the food and detritus left in the tank...if your fish arent eating it fast enough, or you putting in too much in the population will just explode again after you remove them...as mentioned the arrow and coral crabs will certainly eat them...as will a sixline wrasse...husbandry is your biggest ally against these....after that is clear you can catch them if you need too
the worms came with the tank. the guy before overfed the tank also used well water for water changes... some how everything survived. if i get a crab what else do the eat besides worms. dont want the crab to run oout of food eventually
either crab will be fine they are scavengers too...they will also eat poop, and forage for lost fish food...if left too long with no food they may attack your snails...or other smaller crabs (blue legs/ hermits etc...)
i had a a couple anemones in my tank and i fed my coral banded a small piece of shrimp every time i fed the nems...not by choice though...they are voracious and will steal the food they want...in a small tank coral banded are also notorious for chasing, catching and eating slow moving fish, and fish who sleep in the rocks) i think you would be better off with the arrow crab....
also as your feeding regiment has changed from that of the previous owner the worm population will deplete until your tank reaches a new equilibrium...
Any more info on the sponge idea? I've been trying to eliminate some BWs for a while. I too tried the soda bottle with no luck, I bought a pair of mated Coral Banded shrimp, they're cool, but I've never seen either with any BWs. I'd like to know what kind of sponge to use, I'm not really clear on "flat sponge". How large, thickness?
I used to have 3 small seahorses, and I had a ton of BW's. They were perfect tohave in the bottom of the tank as they ate the food the sea horses didn't eat. it made it really nice, as the seahorses were pigs, but wasted alot of food. If you have a LOT of BW's, you are feeding way to much. They are just scavengers as noted above. Good to have if you have problems with over feeding.
