Bristle Worms

So, I purchased around 90 lbs of LR from a local guy that was breaking down his system. However, it is literally FILLED with bristle worms...I know they are generally harmless, but is there a point when there are too many? This will be a FOWLR. I don't have the rock in the tank right now (I'm having to reseal it), but it is in the bath tub filled with saltwater.

I wouldn't worry about it. They generally are self-limiting with regards to food supply.

You can certainly trap them if you like, but they make a good clean-up crew.

However, if the rock truly is filled, it may be a symptom of overfeeding in the previous owner's tank. Since it sounds like you have the time, you may want to consider looking up the "how to properly cook rocks" thread in the Advanced forum (I forget the exact title of the thread). Good read. Maybe check the waltwater to see if anything is leaching - nitrates, phosphates, etc (soap residue can and will kick off nasty phosphates, FYI). If the rock is leaching they would be good candidates for a cook.

Hint, cooking DOES NOT involve heat.

I went through the same thing, you can give them a high salinity dip. Just mix up a bucket of water at like 1.4 I think. Let the rock sit in it for about 10 minutes and most of the worms will jump off to try and find better water. A few will stay on after the shock, but it's a good way to ditch the majority. Make sure you put something in the bottom of the bucket to set the rock on, i used a small metal cup, so the worms can't climb back on the rock.

No such thing as too many. There can be a tank with way too much crud, in which case be thankful for the worms. They'll die back naturally to a good level.
