Bristleworms

After not seeing any bristleworms for a lot of years, my tank has been again repopulated by them.

I noticed that both Knop and Sprung/Delbeek do not mention them as dangerous for clams. What is the latest thought on them (harmless or harmful)

P.S. both my clams are directly on a 3" sand bed.

Ive just posted a reply on this : -

Its possible that the clam has or is being attacked by a bristle worm/s.

According to the instruction for Deltec AquaScape epoxy, clams are susceptible to this. The answer is to use the epoxy to make a saucer shaped base for it to sit in (to which it will attach itself or you can use the epoxy to attach it). I no experience of this and am passing on the advice I found. Good luck with it.

I agree with "mbbuna". Most of the time, bristle worms will not attack healthy clams.

The problem is, it's difficult to tell when a clam is wasting away. Most of the time the clam's mantle will look fine and the next day the clam has liquidified.

That's why alot of people miss taken bristle worms as killers ,but instead they are just scavengers.

i have run my reef with bristleworms, i have a clam that sits on the sand bed with them under him with no problems at all for 4 years.
