I got a brittle star a few weeks back and all he does is sit under a rock he never comes out from that rock

I heard they were supposed to travel around my tank and eat leftover food but he doesnt do that, hi just sits there with his tentacles extended, he responds sometimes when i feed my sun coral whos near him and i give him little bits of brine shrimp and sometimes krill and silversides but he just spits those out maybe there too big.

Is this behaivor normal?

if your feeding him, he has no need to move around and scavenge his own foods. even if he cant eat whats being offered because of the size he is still getting offered food in his new happy spot and will prob wait around for something he likes. if he your brittle star gets hungry enough and nothing comes his way he might start hunting on his own after lights out.

well i only give it to him every once in a while cuz i thought if hes hungry enough he'll come out, but one day i was feeding my dendro and he went over to where he was at and began eating but it only happened one time,

So ur saying just dont feed him and let him find his own food, thatll work

Sounds like normal brittle star behavior to me. They will usually burrow under a rock during the day and only stick their arms out to catch food floating around. This is most prevalent during feeding time. At night they will move about the tank. As far as feeding, I've never directly feed mine. They are part of the clean up crew, so directly feeding them defeats the purpose of them scavenging around the tank and doing their job.

Yeah i know what you men i just thought that he wasnt moving around so he wasnt eating and i didnt want him dying,

I thought maybe he doesnt have the energy to move or something

But if thats just normal then hes not getting anymore food !!!! lol
