As the title says, He is pulling himself apart. Anyone else ever see this?

It is dieing. What are your parameters?

They are one of the last things to die in a tank crash. [emoji17]

Is everything else doing ok? What else do you have in your tank?

How long have you had it?
It could have come in to the LFS infected.

They eat a good amount of food as clean up crew. Is it getting any food?

Parameters are good.
Everything else is good.
2 Watchmen, Pistol Shrimp, 2 small Clowns, small Black Axle Chromis, Urchin.
Feed every other day with shrimp with tweezers
Have had it maybe 5 months
10% water change every couple days

Cheers! Mark

Do you have enough rocks in the tank for the pistol shrimp and the serpent star to avoid each other?

The serpent starfish are one of the most bulletproof creatures in a saltwater tank.

Kinda wracking my brain to figure out what might have caused it.

Lots of rocks. He did try to live in the Pistol cave a couple weeks ago.

That might have been enough to do it.

It's a pistol damaged him in those two spots.
Would have pictured it taking less time to see the results but maybe not.

Prognosis is pretty bad.
Never seen a starfish reach that level that recovered.

Yea, I love the brittles! Have 2 larger ones in a cryptic tank. It kinda looked like he was pulling himself apart and we were hoping he was splitting like an anemone or asterina star but unfortunately I dont think it will pull through.
Cheers! Mark

Great! Maybe it will recover.
Most of the injuries I had seen have been with linkia starfish that disintegrates after a few months.
But the damage looks very similar to what you have in your picture.
Hope this on recovers for you!
Please let us know how it does.

It has been 7 days. There are 2 legs (separate) with no disk portion laying on the sandbed still moving. The other parts with disk attached are hidden in the rockwork.
