Broader Stream

I have a Tunze 6101's and I have been very happy with them. I did hear how ever that if you cut off the nose the stream will be broader, is this true? Is this a bad idea? If it doesn't work are the replacements expensive? Any other way to make it broader?

Thanks

Dan

The only sure way I know of is to replace the nozzle with the 6200.13. They are expensive, about $40. I could imagine shortening the outlet tube would act like a shotgun choke and allow the flow to spread slightly more, but I haven't tried it and doubt the impact would be significant. Unlike a shotgun, the reach is only 6ft, so adding a 1/16" in spread at the base doesn't amount to the same over 2yds that it would over 50yds.

Thanks Roger, I will check out the 6200.13 and let you know. I will pm you tomorrow.

Also for people that don't own a 6101, I am not in anyway unhappy with them, they are great pumps!

out of curiosity, why hasnt tunze changed the nozzle diameter on these? Im suprised the 6105 didnt have a bigger nozzle on it out of the box. wider flow is the name of the game as I understand it. its in their sales literature, and there is an off the shelf part that would actually reduce costs by sharing 1 additional component between lines...

just rambling here :p

We get just as many complaints about the flow being too dispersed in the 6205. You can't win all the time. We try to build the pumps so they have enough reach to cover typical tank sizes and the broader flow will reduce the reach, the only time the broader flow is really useful is on shorter tanks, wider tanks and tanks with a lot of LPS and or soft corals.
