Broken/detached hinge on tridacnid

Conky

Anyone have any suggestions for speeding up the healing process on a clam with a detached hinge? It's not mine, but an acquaintance's...I have no pictures and have not seen the damage personally. The clam looks otherwise okay (mantle expands normally). I don't believe there is any superficial damage other than the separation.

I searched old posts and the only suggestion was using a rubber band to keep the shells closed for a few days while it heals.
Will this really work. Won't it be starved for energy (it is mature) if it is kept closed (and thus heal slower)?

Anybody have ANY ideas/experiences. Cyanoacrylate? I would really like to help him out.

Thanks in advance
