Broodstock tanks: transparent vs. opaque

Hi,
I have a question regarding broodstock tank materials:
Is it absolutely necessary to maintain adult fish in transparent (glass or acrylic) tanks, or would they do just as well in opaque food-grade plastic tubs of equal dimensions?
Logically, I see both pros and cons:
Pro: The fish would be less exposed to external visual disturbances (i.e., me).
Con: They may feel more constricted because they lack the perception of a wide space.

If plastic is an option, would a bright or dark colour work better?

Thanks a lot!

I didn't notice the fish being negatively affected by seeing the outside world so I would always go with a tank where I can see what's going on inside. If you want to shield the fish from outside distractions you could cover most of the sides with cardboard or just don't clean the glass except for the spot in front of the nest so that you can see what's going on.
