Ive purchaced quite a few acros that appeared green at the store, but in my tank appear to be brown. I have 0 phos.,0 nitrate, 0 nitrite, and a phos. reactor, and these corals continue to display growth. Can someone tell me whats going on??
It happen to me a lot before. What happen to me is beacuse I put them right into my tank without Acclimation Procedures. The acclimation is needed no matter how close you LFS and your home is. The PH and ... with their tank water is difference than your tanks water. Now I will acclimate them and even match the PH of my tank before I put them in. Hope that help
It's possible the lighting is different. I've seen plenty of times 20K lighting give a coral a nice color but 10K makes it appear brownish. Just give it some time. How long has the tank been up and running? What is your calc/alk and does it shift often?
I acclimate my sps by taking them out of the bag for about 2 minutes. Then drop em in near the bottom for a week, then move em where I want em. Many on here do the same and haven't lost a single one yet.
how are you acclimating them? easier to help if you list full parameter specs. lighting makes a big difference, most of the LFS in my area use 20k cause its more asthetically appealing making the corals look more colorful, but i run 10k and they dont look quite the same as they did in the store. just give them a little time and they should get better granted your water is on point and doesnt fluctuate to much. list full params and acclimation procedure.
forgot to say if you use too much GFO (phosban/rowaphos) at one time it will brown out or bleach your corals too. i've done it before. took my lps' a month to color back up and sps' almost 1.5 months.
Well if they're green in the store and brown at home immediately, that's all lighting, the green most likely is a fluorescence color that's triggered by 20kK lights and/or actinics (the prefered lighting of all sellers of coral since it tends to make colors pop out). If they turned brown over time then that could be any number of issues.
