I have a 12 Gal aqupod I have 15 lbe live sand and about 10 lbs live rock the rock is about 2 years old and I started the tank withe half new water and half water from other tank it has been running for 3 weeks I have one gobie in there and a couple of mushrooms from my other tank I am getting brown algae on the rock and the sand my water tests fine and I have no algae problems in any other tank what do ya think I use only rodi

I changed 1 gal of water last week should I change more often than that this nano thing is new to me I have a 150 gal FO and 46 gal reef and I dont cange water to often once a month or moth an a half

well in my 10g I change out about 2 gallons every weekend. In your 12g, did you add anynew rock or sand, or was it all from your old tank? If you added new, it's possible there were excess nutrients that causing your algea bloom. Just do your weekly water changes and you should start too see a noticeable improvment

when you do a water change, take a piece of rubber tubing and vac up the algea thats on the sand, just swirl it a lil bit above the sand so you dont suck all the sand out. make sure you do thatright beofr your lights are going to turn off, that way the algea is at it's peak time.

the sand is new i used 15lbs of live sand everything else has been cycled and I will start doing water changes once a week should i change 1 gal or more

I will start this weekend thank you for the help I am sure it will help one mor thing would you keep a seahorsw or two in a 12 gal tank

lol, yeah I hear ya there. I'ld start out doing a 50% change to get most of the excess nutrients out, then do your regimented 15-20% weekly

you might want to think about getting some snails and hermits as well. water changes are not a cure all.
