this si so gross!! is there any good recommendations on how to remove it. it is all over my sand and rocks. big eye sore. I am now uding RO water too cut back my light times. anything products that I can use??

it sounds like a diatom bloom...you can suction as much as you can out..and just keep on with the RO water and give it time..this happens in new tanks..

Diatom blooms are normal in a new tank during a cycle. If your tank is stocked with fish you should monitor your ammonia closely.

Cruella,
The only thing I can recommend about every problem you've encountered so far and almost every problem you will encounter, is to read up on this hobby and do your research. From the sounds of everthing so far, you are 110% gung-ho, head first, no looking back (or forward for that matter) into the end result. Keeping up this pace, I can almost guarantee you will end up losing your entire tank, and be so discouraged that you leave the hobby all together. If you truely are interested in the hobby and keeping a heathly tank, take all of our advice (and a lot has been given) and SLOW DOWN. I'm sure there are a lot of experts here that will agree with me that you're heading down the wrong path. So please just read, listen, relax, and take things slow.

well my first saltwatre tank was up for two years. I just never had this problem before. as for my levels I test them every day, everything is fine.

Even with as much experience that you say you may have, I personally feel you don't know half of what you should for this hobby. And I'm not saying it's a bad thing to not know, but it is a bad thing to not know and push forward anyways. From 4-5 of your previous posts, it doesn't sound like things are fine. I'm get stressed out just reading your posts! (OMG, HELP, WHAT DO I DO?) I'm gonna have a heart attack and I don't even know you! JK
But seriously, please take my advice and I'm sure we all can work through anything you might encounter. I'm just looking out for your best interest!

everything Ken says is right on the money, take your time and enjoy watching your reef mature, mine is 3 yrs old now and beautiful, it's easy to rush things along but so much can go wrong in a very short amount of time, I am sure just about every1 here has seen almost every problem with a new set-up and we all learn from our mistakes or other peoples mistakes, it could take anywhere from 6 months to a year for it to mature, just slow down a little and take the advise that every1 has to offer and you will have a nice reef, I don't want to see you get discouraged and say screw it.

This like what lakeside is experiencing is very normal with new tanks. Siphon off what you can when doing a water change, and have plenty of snails.

Same thing happened to me; so I ordered a standard pacific cleanup crew from Dr. Mac and the critters cleaned up my tank within a week. No more diatoms/brown algae/green algae - all gone.
