So what have people done to regain color in sps ,in tanks that
always brown out sps ? I know to many nutrients is supposed to be the common problem and I have a large skimmer and some macro algae in the sump, but all sps seem to loose color over time and some faster than others, but none remain a good vibrant color. This is in a 600 gallon system with 2 tanks and one is mostly sps. Havent done real exstensive testing ,except basics, but thought maybe someone has had good luck with a simple solution ???

The two most common problems are A) Nutrients are too high B) Not enough light. If this happens slowly over time that probably rules out "shock" so my guess is you have one or both of the problems above. The goal is to get your phosphates below 0.05ppm. Just as a note, if your salifert test kit reads any color at all... even though it only says .01, that is a hell of alot higher than .01. My test kit reads 0.00 (no color) and according to a Hanna meter, my water has ~0.03 which is pretty good. I suggest you light your fuge 24/7 for a while to try and get the macro growing....if you have the cash you may want to check out Zeovit. While its expensive to start, it WILL lower your nutrients and if you do it right and dont go to fast to soon, you will see some great turn around in colors if nutrients are your problem.
